リバプールの街を紹介する旅番組を見ました。
リバプールといえばビートルズ、それともサッカー？
2014年に放送された番組の再放送なので、あの頃はコロナなんてなかったなあと賑わう街の様子を眺めました。
海商都市リバプール としてユネスコの世界遺産に認定されている街です。
リバプールFC（赤）とエバートン（青）、リバプールには２つのサッカーチームがあって、街で『赤ですか？青ですか？』と尋ねると、みんな笑顔でどちらかの色を答えるそうです。
街のシンボルはライバー・バード (Liver bird)、時計台の上の鳥の像なんですが、 ライバー・バードが飛び立つとリバプールは滅びる という伝説があるとのこと。
パブでたむろってビール飲んでるおじさんたちは元港湾労働者で、２年にわたるストライキを戦い抜いて解雇されたことを誇りに思っていました。
そんな街で生まれたビートルズは去年活動停止から50周年を迎え、彼らにゆかりのあるスポットがリバプールの観光名所になっています。
今日ご紹介するペニー・レインが実在する通りの名前で歌に出てくる床屋は今も営業されてるとか。
ビートルズがよく演奏していたライブハウスも出てきました。
ポールが子どもの頃、聖歌隊で唄っていた教会の椅子には『ここでポール・マッカートニーが歌っていた』みたいな金属のプレートが貼ってありましたよ。
彼らは地元の人しか知らないような内容の歌をライブハウスでよく演奏してウケてたみたいです。
ペニー・レインもその一つ。
実はわたくし長いことペニー・レインが小銭みたいな大粒の雨のことかと思っていたんです。
雨が目や耳に入るのかと…。
