Flamingos are large pink or red wading birds(渉禽(しようきん)類の鳥)with long necks and webbed(水かきのある)feet that live in large flocks in aquatic areas in the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. Their oddly-shaped beaks(くちばし), when used upside-down, are specially adapted to separate mud and silt(沈泥)from the algae(藻類)and shellfish that the birds consume. Flamingos begin life with white plumage(羽).
