Cassini / Chitose Hajime
Some music fans would recognize her with Deep Forest's song "Will You Be Ready" in 2002 before she made a debut. Then, it might not be so surprising that "Nijiga umareru kuni" (the country where rainbow is coming from) was performed with popular local band in Ireland, and used as a theme song of diplomatic relations between Ireland and Japan.Needless to explain, Cassini is an astronomer who made achievements in Saturn observation. This title is named after this astronomer -So is Cassini spacecraft which ended mission at Saturn on Sep. 15, 2017.It might be only me who listened to the title tune "Cassini -dosei ni waga aru riyuu-"(Cassini -the reason Saturn has rings-) and thought of Cassini orbiter first of all-Because of the line saying that she is so deeply in love and finds herself going around someone she loves.Actually, Gen Ueda, the songwriter, was inspired to write this song when he met Chitose after she got married.In this album as a whole, Chitose expresses circle of people like Saturn's rings that is connected by music.Nine songwriters and producers took part in this recording.Chitose says that the atmosphere of songs written by male songwriters and female songwriters are different, and songs produced by female tend to be more passionate.Back to "Will You Be Ready": The sampled traditional folk song performed by Chitose was "Itokuribushi", a spinning song in Amami.Reportedly, this song expresses concerns that thread might break, followed by lines saying if thread breaks, we can tie, but if relationship between people breaks, it's difficult to tie again.With the lapse of time... Chitose's latest album as of October 2017 is "Heiwa gannen", a collection of antiwar songs. She made a release of this album in summer 2015, 70th anniversary of the end of World War II."Shinda onnanoko", a song about a girl who perished in atomic bombing in Hiroshima, is a song she recorded with Ryuichi Sakamoto in 2005, 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.Chitose performed together with Sakamoto again in album "Cassini"."Will You Be Ready" was a song warning whether human race is ready for the results of what they've done. What if this is presented to self-centered, imbecline, exhibitionistic, dictatorial rulers who don't know that destroying the world and Earth to flaunt themselves means death of THEIR OWN? 20周年 ―を待たずして…
本日、土星探査機カッシーニの打ち上げ20周年です。カッシーニが土星の大気に突入して燃え尽きるのが2017年9月15日＝打ち上げ20周年のちょうど1か月前と知った当時、せっかくなら打ち上げ20周年まであと1カ月頑張ったらいいのに―と思ったものです。ツイッターに手を出していません故、NASA・JPLやカッシーニの公式ツイッターも見るだけだし、日本人の方の書き込みをお見かけしてつい"あっ、お仲間だ"と思ってもフォローもコメントもできませんが、ミッション終了は日本時間では夜・ちょうど帰宅後だったので、ブログとマイスペの下書きを打ちながらNASAのサイトで見守っておりました。一部、その時のブログとかぶりますが、一応手抜きではございません。かつてボイジャーに夢中になってしまった当時は、少なくとも土星の近接写真はまだボイジャーのが最新でした。その時点でカッシーニ・ホイヘンスミッションがどの段階にあったか、今なら遡って調べるのは容易いですが…当方、中学時代に宇宙にえらく興味を持っていたものの、高校の数学で赤点を取って泣く泣く引き下がってしまい、 2015年春に冥王星に探査機接近まであと数か月と知ってまた戻ってきた ―といういきさつ故"浦島太郎"状態だったし、 カッシーニの活躍は2015年初夏からしかリアルタイムで見ておりません。それでも2015年春に戻ってきたことで、そこからミッションの最終段階までリアルタイムで見ることができたのはラッキーです―というところに、カッシーニが土星までの7年間の旅と2度のミッション延長を経て20年の長きにわたる活躍だったことの凄さを感じるこれまた子供の頃は理解していなかったことながら、考えてみたら（みなくても）パイオニアもボイジャーも1970年代製、しかもフライバイしながらの観測のみ、となると、滞在時間が短かったし、技術的に不可能だった観測や得られなかったデータもあります。それでも先にパイオニア11号が初めて土星に接近、続いてボイジャー1・2号が土星に接近観測して色々調べてくれたおかげで後が続いたのは見逃せません。多くの発見と同時に新たな謎も浮上、それを受けてカッシーニ＋タイタン着陸機ホイヘンスを送ってじっくり調べよう ―となった旨は、2015年に戻ってきてから知りました。ボイジャー1・2号の打ち上げは1977年、その20年後の1997年にカッシーニ・ホイヘンスが打ち上げ、そして7年間の土星への旅の期間も含めると20年（厳密には19年11か月）でミッション終了となった今年2017年はボイジャーの40周年のアニバーサリーイヤー。両機の目的や機能などが違うと言えばそれまでですが、カッシーニの方が先に役目を終えましたか…それにしても土星って、見た目が神秘的なだけでなく、"ミニ太陽系"とも称されているほどで、面白い世界ですねぇ…中学生の時、家族で星見キャンプに行ったとき、望遠鏡で土星を見ることができ、リングもしっかり見えて感動したことを日記に書いています。2015年に戻ってきてまずびっくりしたことの1つが、知らない間に土星の衛星が61個に増えていたこと。タイタンやエンケラドスに地球外生命がいるかどうかは別として、そこでの発見が、ロゼッタ・はやぶさ（初代・2代目）・OSIRIS-Rexなどの成果とも合わさって地球の生命の謎を解くカギにもつながってくれたら…と思います。＋ カッシーニは途中スイングバイした惑星も含めて太陽系の水星以外の全惑星を撮影してくれており、土星からの「Pale Blue Dot」、特に土星の輪の隙間から見た地球が、よく撮れたなぁ、と思います。（他にカッシーニの写真で特に好きなのは順不同で、真上から見た土星、複数の衛星を一度に捉えた写真、輪の影が映った土星）元々「Pale Blue Dot」とはボイジャー1号の最後の写真で、1990年2月14日に撮影の、60億キロ彼方からの地球…太陽光線に隠れた小さな点にしか映っていません。（最初の写真は地球と月のツーショット ―と、いうことはボイジャー1号の最初と最後の写真は共に地球）太陽系なんて宇宙から見たら砂粒みたいなもんですね…地球外文明の存在はひとまずさておき、もし地球外星人へのメッセージのレコードを積んだボイジャーがどこかの星で拾われたとしても、今の人類では異星人に顔向けできますかねぇ…なお、今年のバレンタインシーズンに遊び倒した惑星ショコラの1個ずつのツーショット、土星が登場しないのは…撮る前に食べちゃったからです。cf. https://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/news/3107/neptune-from-saturn/ https://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/the-journey/grand-finale-feature/

Are you ever so slack?
You might wonder how I write weblog about TV while I seldom watch TV at home.But actually, I DO watch TV two or three hours a week; a few programs I watch regularly, and sometimes movies and documentaries.And when TV is left on at eating houses I go for lunch sometimes.I feel disgusted simply because I seldom watch TV at home, so I take seats where TV is out of sight.Why? Let me place my honest and blunt views:1. Those programs on always-on TV -often news analysis programs, look like just showing chatting among casts. I suppose they mean to direct discussion or debate programs. Then, may I ask casts to be good role models in communication?Stop trapping others in each other's wordings, interrupting others' talk too much, one-way conversation, and various bad examples.Stop rattling on and on shortcomings of other people and world as if being a conquering hero, which make our society even more and more smothering.2. Those "news programs" sometimes report important news about politics, international affairs, business and economy.But they talk about them briefly, and they lay the social news aside, And move on to entertainment news immediately and take time to talk about it, -Especially when it comes scandals like stars' illicit love affairs, they talk even more eagerly, -And back to the social news briefly again.At least, why don't they report one topic at a time without dividing?Even if they place greater importance on amusement than information and instruction, Since they are running "news" analysis programs, they should take precedence in reporting information that relates with viewers' daily life -Such as solar flare that can damage satellite communications and GPS.3. As for reports catering to panjandrums that is often accused online, I cannot say anything because the time to watch TV is too short to compare and judge. But I think this accuse is on the mark that so many TV programs treat trendy online topics and magazine articles, without collecting evidence.Is it because the time to watch TV is too short that I wonder which is slack, TV providers' side or viewers' side?Those daytime news-analysis TV shows are aimed at people who are supposed to be at home at this time slot, such as housewives and elderly people with no daytime job.It's understandable that plainness is required. But then, if TV providers’ side insist themselves as information source, Is it an outrage to question back whether their intention is spreading anti-intellectualism or policies to keep general public ignorant?Since it's already known widely that TV providers' side don't regard appearances to earn attention from general public called audience rate,Viewers' side should be active against this passive media. It's NO GOOD to leave TV on meaninglessly, while TV is always passive media.Recently, power-harassment and assault by an assemblywoman was revealed from the victim secretary's recording, and drew public attention. "News programs" of commercial stations played back the insulting words on and on in amusement. Later, a problem came up that small children were found out mimicking those insulting words.As for this, it's partly parents' fault to leave such TV programs on without question.Today, I cannot afford to mention how TV and other various media encourage bullies.In the meantime, I'd like to order them to be conscious of influence, responsibility, and significance of existence of TV, which is nothing new.If I want to increase time to watch TV, I would have to become a full-time housewife or give up all kinds of music activity.

"Music Of My Life"
This movie comes from three letters from fans of Sing Like Talking.This is shown at only ten theaters in Ishikawa, Oosaka, Niigata, Fukuoka, Tokyo, Hokkaido, Aomori, Miyagi, Kanagawa, Aichi,Starting from October 7 or 14 or 21 or 28 depending on each theater, and screened for one week.They solicited e-mails from fan club members with the theme "me and Sing Like Talking".At 29th anniversary concert, they mentioned about it; at first, their purpose was for talk-show CDs distributed at fan club.But as members of S.L.T. and staffs read those e-mails, an idea came up that they could make a movie about relationship between music and lives.Everyone has music linked to occasion of lives.S.L.T. is celebrating 30th anniversary next year.During S.L.T.'s long career, each fan has their own lives, and memories of their own linked to songs of S.L.T.From hundreds of "me and Sing Like Talking" e-mails, three stories were selected.1. A couple of high-school girl and boy;Since they separated suddenly, they have lived lives of each.Twenty years later, they run across each other again.2. A high-school girl, and her mother with illness;The considerate daughter nurses her mother every day, and at the same time, she suffers that nobody understands her distress.3. An expectant mother who is an avid fan of S.L.T.;She declares to name the baby "Chikuzen" after the singer Chikuzen Satou if the baby is a boy.Her family members violently oppose until the uproar expands to the verge of family breakup.No wonder: Actually, "Chikuzen" is stage name that comes from his nickname reading Chinese characters of his name in different way -his real name is Takeyoshi- and besides, this name can be confused with old name of Fukuoka and its local dish.Those three groups come to 28th anniversary special concert of S.L.T. held at Hibiya park on August 6, 2016.I didn't -or couldn't contribute a letter of "me and Sing Like Talking" because I'm not a member of fan club.Of course, as well as many fans, I also have memories of my own related with S.L.T. and their songs.Not so dramatic enough to be made into movies or dramas, though.Not all the memories are good; some fans might have songs that remind them of sad and bitter memories -So do I, unfortunately.Even so, today, I'd like to place a wish:May S.L.T. and fans keep on having happy time together, and making wonderful memories forever.
