Tannhauser artists roundtable at California Part3RB: 3437 Sorry, I'm doing it again. For me the important thing about Wagnerian music is great contrast. You experience in Wagner from the large synphonic to the smallest delicate chamber music, and these contrast that make it so grand and it's far as I concerned every one says all Wagners has to be so "Mmmmm---" (streching his arms up) like this. I 'm not of this opinion. I'm of the opinon people think "We have to do this!" and that's why people think, "Oh it can't be performed." But if you get the idea of thousands of different colours involved in this music, as again, I'm talking basically about myself as the tenor, it's immense the colours from the loudest to the softest to the more, most regart, and it's the beginning were really difficult. It really is. But it's the harve? , I don't have to screech(*) my way through this? I can just sing it. That's the idea. it's the harve?. it's not gonna be too loud. I don't have to go there and prove everybody I have to sing loud, I have to sing beautifully, understandinglly, and try to convince young lady to let me go and made mistakes, sometimes obviously, the idea is it has to be beautifully sung as well , not just screaming --. ok? I meant making mistakes not myself but the way he load it. (smiling)Hampe: May I just add one thing as commentary? Wagner was the great admirer of Bellini, most melodic old italian composer and consently you hear and feel in his music, which is line, line, line. That's also the elements of Wagner.Nick :---- (asks to Russell about his father,Victor Braun.) Did you ever see him perform Wolfram or did you learn anything from those memories of your father's performance of the work?Russell:Sadly I never saw him perform Wolfram. in fact He didn't perform it very often. I think he performed it when his career was starting at Frunkfurt, further than I think Munich, well I'm not actually know I'm sure where and when. it's course Micheal Hampe goes way back thw colon? times as the teenager, --- but my memory my father singing Wagner most in Tristan and he sang Kurvenal and Meister singer von Nurnberg I think for him, maybe zero identified with the most and anyway it's personal thing the recording was some legendary it is . Nick :Let's talk about the production itself, it has very interesting history,(asks about Production.) and I start actually with James, Was it originally designed by Gunter Schneider ??version?James Mulder (Designer): 3843 Vienna state opera and Metropolitan Opera produced by Otto Schenk together, the conception -very shape in sort of style, slightly because -- -San Diego Opera had approached Gunter Schneider to see how we could concept putting into this theatre, and as Gunter is now 82 years old, he's little bit firm? and not quite able to travel, actually walk really, so he came ask me, I've been his friend, to more than twenty years maybe, student he mentor I very very proud to accept the challenge to product this theatre. Nick: Micheal, did you ever know the production before? Hampe:I haven't seen it before, but --know Gunter Schneider see him very well, he was one of the great designer, 50's 60's 70's, even 80's, desiner all major operahouse in the world, and German I'm visiting now occasion planning this production here, given that the stage of San Diego smaller than the Metropolitan Opera stage , adapted it to San Diego, and I'm not sure he can come. but he good old friend Gunter Schneider also very progressive in his time, for instance, I same project doing horographic scenic design. and we had long research phase together near because only there was horographic institute and we developed - interesting thing like that, he's one of the great designer, let's say a of the second half the last century, and wonderful design production here San Diego.Mulder: -- these days we can't.Nick: (to Petra) What is the most challenging things to sing Wagners opera? What is the most challenging part of singing Venus?Petra Lang (Venus) : about Venus 2 different version , Dresden and Paris, Gavor Otvesch mentioned before, and Dresden version for me is just fun. she curses him go and done, it's not real way- very short - sing it through after 15 minutes I've done. (laughing)Nick : Yeah, you're done(laughing) you sure you recording the Paris version, you what does go on? in Dresden version?Petra: after half an hour, it's done. I think Paris version makes Venus very weak. she said him to stay stay stay--and cry and do everything him to stay. In my opinion, men want to go, let him go! (laughing) Maybe there's a reason other is waiting and no need to yell. Nick : In the Paris version, she seems she goes up and she goes down. so not much about Dresden?Petra: No. you want to go? I tried but you want to go, I curse you go.(laughing)Nick: and Elisabeth, what is the most challenging role with you?Camilla: Of course the music is fantastic, Challenge? of course um--- in second act she is very happy because she knows Tannhauser has come back and this big change, where everything was destroyed her whole life was destroyed but she still gets the strength to- um, then at the end of the second act she along with whole men's choir and protagonist? -how to say- of the male singers, She's trying to, yeah, to tell them "No", He's not lost yet, we have to save him. and then third act she wait for a long time to come back of him but he's not coming and she knows she lost this fight and she, yeah, wants to die. You never know if she dying or, I did another production where she is commiting suicide on the stage, but is also very emotional. She dies like in Wolfram's arms. But usually she just disappears and she becomes, I don' know, Saint, or she goes to another world. Go to PART4

San Diego Opera Tannhäuser Reviews San Diego Com. 'Tannhäuser' launches 43rd season in spectacular Wagnerian fashion Excerpt--- As Tannhauser, the minstrel knight torn between sensuality and spirituality, Gambill left no doubt as to why this is his signature role. The strapping, 6-foot-2 tenor has made it his own. His Tannhauser is a soldier in the sexual revolution, struggling to unite the warring parts of his psyche. Though his vibrato was a bit wide in loud passages, his tone was bracingly robust, even during tumultuous passages in the Hall of Song. San Diego Opera Tannhauser roundtable Part4Nick: 4517I imagine that singing "Dich, teure Halle" (第2幕 エリーザベトのアリア「おごそかなこの広間よ」) is one of the most satisfying thing for soprano can do?Camilla: It is.Nick: Yeah?Camilla: But also I like to sing the 2nd aria where she's really - that's some more earthy music. Nick: Yeah. and Robert? Certainly Tannhauser has its challenges, what would be the No.1 challenge for you?Robert: What I need to - or to choose?Nick: chooseRobert: Yeah, when the curtains go up, I say, 4 and half hours I gonna die-(Nick giggling) Ok. let us take it one step out of time. don't think what's gonna happen. you know that it's the really innocent? questions that one says-- Tannhauser is one of the most difficult of all the Wagnerian roles and I don't know it having been fit me, I enjoyed singin it, I have to admit it. It's very difficult to answer the question. you know, openly The truth is - it's my job. (seeing Nick, Nick giggling) and if I can't do it, I would be better even I would try because I wanna kill myself at the end. (people laughing) or maybe you wanna kill me. -well not gonna have that. As I said before, it's full of contrast. You have to sing the first Act, you have to sing the second act and you have to speak your way and screech your way through in third act. sometimes loudly said very very synical. He's very mad at the world. So it's very very very moving in third act. --(suddenly stop talking and looking toward Nick) is that enough?(audience laughing)Nick: That's good.and Russell, for you? bringing the new Wagner first time on stage?Russell: the challenge is the same Mozart Bach or Penderetsuki---the challenge is how we do perform on stage and be spontanious. at the same time all our preparation and the technique and other stage direction together and find the moment where for Wofram is particullar he in the second act he called yes? singer creek( German?) it's of course not a war, it's a contest, yeah, wonderful prize gift been tald by Elisabeth, it's little bit like TV, what the line is it? (Audience help him.) Whose line is it? (誰の台詞だっけ?) there you go improvise on (clicking his finger) love. (casts laughing) Wolfram chose inprovising dig deep find it in origin meaning of love. It's so spontaneous. as well as the second aria he really act three best known aria from Wolfram possibly from the opera, I don't know(smiling) , it's so spontaneous emotions, not something that is really the greatest challenge for me to find that moment. Nick: I would like to ask about writers note all of you. if you've ever been involved the either production of Tannhauser or production of Wagner's opera, that was - to try to say in better words, it's strange, or bizarre, or the director ask you to do the strange and bizarre things not quite fit. is the loving story about - oh, what you're doing in Europe, you know, (casts are laughing) Because we tend to be a more traditional in westcoast. But I always find it interesting to hear about different director's takes, and different designers takes -- pieces, legendary pieces. Have you ever believe-- comfortable in production of Tannhauser? Hampe: No, not on comfortable after all. let say the first act, Venus act, that's what you're talking about, of course? Yeah? sexual fantasy put it that way. I personally believe fantasies of that kind, all fantasy has to be -testify in audeience, so you have to lose your associations also their respect, generally speaking what we do on stage is not objective thing, the audience is the very strong co-players. Each members of audience sees and experiences its own impressions based on personal biography. and personal experience audience have that and each personal audience sometimes not only little bit, various in the wide range. -that what happens with the Venusberg scene. You will see what we saw it, we have a very good ballet, ballet master, but it's not Ballet. Yes? it's generally speaking, I'm always trying to find what is opera, Opera is telling the story by music. It means, simply said, I have to see what I've heared, and I have to hear what I've seen. (smiling) so exceptions group dismissed at this moment, yeah ? so especially Wagner, as Bob said has all these colours and all these details in the orchestra, I have the director's duty to find out what are details most important, why did it right details, I have to be kind of music detective, and then accordingly, the action on stage, so it seems to you the audience, the music is the moment is born and frozen out of actions on stage, that's all simply and necessary but demands lots of work, but that's actually my duty I'm not based on the music, story and the character. No. The ideas must come out from the score, opera is the first place -- quite often, Everything has to be reigned by music, by the score. and there specific instrument orchestra entering expressing very specic things. then I have to find out then why ? and that I have to stage RG: Yeah I give you the anecdot second, individually ask me the questions. basically we probably say, yes, I remember that there whatever? but the point is the it was in the picture itself. You are not seeing it, you are in it. and we spend weeks preparing with producers and something to worth. You have to totally convinced yourself what you are doing. Otherwise you can't do it. So if I have been in catastrophy production before which I luckily have and have been, probably said No. ok? there was the production in Geneva. and then Venusburg ,they hired the guy the red light district - you know what I mean?- well, you came on the stage, nothing on. and was more tour , details he was making more money, now I had been singing the Tannhauser, I would be very honest with you, I would have not done it. I would have left it. Because I thought it's absolutely out of bounds. I'm not an-- Indiana, (Nick laughing) that's not point, (Nick laughing) it doesn't fit. Now this is something irritates. all the press only to do this one I coming out ?? say Hi, I'm here. that's what is all about. that is only the story I know is really bad. and I told you it's really bad. Nick: Maestro , you have the last words.Gabor: oh my god. ---- somebody sit half naked smoking cigars, you don't watch any more and you you are really disturbed how can you make this picture remain you are difinition. not even this but musician -- we see also in the music is colours, for example, Lohengrin mostly blue. create blue colour. but it is green disturbing situation because I hear blue, and we see green or whatever. but this is a big big problem not easy to say ok stage is something international scandal and you have to do it diffrently we had big problem performing mostly pieces are 100 years old. it was so many made fantastic directions it really difficult find something same levels best productions where. career of Director he make scandal he rude the press, he want a scandal. if the singers sing very badly or conductor very bad it boos afterwards, then is the big problems of the career, but not for them. For them this is the chance. so we have a problem for old pieces, it would have more composer to compose piece today. then we should only perform it. not change. do something diffrent. not only to do it. we have this problem not in this production.(Nick laughing)Nick: glad to hear that. -- Thank you all for being come.the end of the roundtable

Tannhauser artists roundtable at California Part2RG: You might think I'm joking because I am, practice, (indicating his fingers, like counting the numbers, smiling) practice, practice. this kind of singing is not leaning how to use this here (touching his throat) but (touching his waist) Girls lose her waist lines, not fat but muscles. waist grows, I mean you look me half back but I mean full back. That's just the way we build. really strong has to do it's really physically supported the whole thing. we don't sing from here (touching his throat), we sing from the body. and that comes from practising. I mean not coordinating, I don't mind practising, you do the part of Tristan, when times of Tannhauser, every day keeps muscles going so you use this all the time. it's like you gotta quaterback he doesn't pass the ball and warm up enough he's gotta lot to get it in there, it is muscles, in this particular case, Patriots wait on the battles, you gotta have the talent, you gotta bring along, it's part of you. but what do you do with it? that's the catch. he gotta really technically knows what you're doing. I personally a low technitian. I learned how to do it or otherwise I was born to be able to do it, but many people I suppose could do it. but they don't know technically, how to get to it. That's my opinion (looking to Nick, people laughing) What other singers has to say.Russell Braun (Wolfram): 21:52--I think it's obvious, it's very little art to accept it, the diction is really what distinguishes dramatic opera from all other forms. The german diction of Wagners are even more elevated any other things -- that's actually, allow this expression - cutting through orchestra, the orchestra is something like animals we slaughter in there(laughing) we must conquer it but I think we want to blend with the orchestra, with the orchestra sound by producing vowels alone, you can't do that. where we have to make use of the voice more also as a percussive instrumentals, which is you know, as the Maestro says in rehearsal one more wonderful German words "tisch??? laute" which means the sounds of the languages that buzz basically, and more we do that, the more we can - and first of all understood also the kind of important in the theatre and heard as well.RG: Can I say one word please?Nick: Yes, please.(Hampe is grabbing the microphone.)RG: I'm a singer!MH: You go first.RG: Thank you. He does remind me something. there's something that's really - things to sing Wagners. I have sung Bel Canto for almost 20 years, ok? and you have to learn basicly as Tenor, not soprano or the baritones but talking about particullar tenor part you have to learn this speak those as well. 3rd act is not really sung- but spoken. it's more articulated, it's very unique. Now you have beautiful Bel Canto aria of Wolfram and beautiful Bel Canto aria of Elisabeth but Tannhauser comes and growling to everybody, ahhh! (Nick giggling, actually Gambiil growls) and he really want the articulation. very very strong diction. and Bernd Weikl said, he's very famous Sachs, he said, Sachs is the big part in Meistersinger, he said "Bob, if I sing the entire Sachs, I never make it through it. You don't sing it , you speak it and you sing it, it's the mixture. it's unique. it's different in singing Verdi, Puccini, diffrent style of singing. The second act of Tristan is the song and third act of Tristan is spoken. it's also the song. the same thing here, Tannhauser. It's really communicating. it's real communication of Wagner really wanted to do that.Micheal Hampe: very quick -- how that depelopment came to -- some of you maybe remember, after the first preformance of "the Abduction from the Seraglio (Die Entführung aus dem Serail)" Emperor Josef said to Mozart after the big success, "Theres's too many notes dear Mozart", Mozart reportedly answered just as not necessary, Your Majesty, now, Josef didn't say the music is ideal, far from that, he was the very good Celloist and played most advanced new Chamber music every Wednesday night, --Salieri and Gazman, court composers, he knew what was it, What he meant was you are doing too many music into the orchestra, not only the basis for the action of the character situation, no, you're doing subconscionce of orchestra, and you're doing unspoken the orchestra and you are doing commentary on the orchestra, all that which is ligemedly, the buisiness of the singer act on stage. Dear Mozart you are taking away things from actors. and that time, the vision between singer actor didn't exist, exist much lesser degree from nowadays, the first Bel Monte in "the Abduction from the Seraglio" really difficult tenor part in there, sure you, very next day, in drama -- big role, and spoken drama, the same. Now Mozart wonderfully balanced. Then the composer, Carl Maria von Weber and Wagner himself, took pack more and more orchestra, consequences the orchestra bigger bigger bigger. which naturally needed simply physically, louder voices, heavier voices, as we tend to say, and that neccesitated, this special technik Bob was speaking about. and did all ended Richard Strauss Electra, where there are one poor voice in one hundred instruments orchestra. and order to still managed, to bring as the singers'voice, sense of what he singing to say, cross over this heavy orchestra, Wagner is the grand master of what we called, prozodee?? which means the putting the words to the right way the music so inspite of big orchestra, very loud , you still understand as Bob said, if you really technically know how you do it, you can get even with this big orchestra, Wagners words, that the same , what happening, across, for instance, if you ask yourself one or two most important words in a sentence, those words are circumstances, so you should be understood, you get the sense. -- Wagner makes his specially turn melodically, harmonically, in the instrumentation, and the same time -- symphonic orchestra, he could add immensely phychology subconscious, human relations not spoken the wonderful relation of Tannhauser, is the relation between Wolfram and Elisabeth, he loves her deeply, this is never said with one word. but the music makes you cry. because the music makes you understand this personal tragedy between these 2 persons. and that is the archievment mainly, not only, but mainly of Wagner and so the drama is not only on the stage, it's in the orchestra, orchestra makes you understnad the real meaning. That's way we need singers who not only have strong voices, but as Bob said, who has the technique, and many of which is not so much sound, many of which is spoken, as Bob said, that has to be technically very very understood and trained.Nick: Maestro, how you controll this beast,(laughing) this orchestra? they can often be so big so loud and does Wagner help the singer? or was he working against the singer?Otvos : Simply different kind of point of you conductor. you can really -- Tannhauser is example not only the big can be enourmous? which is not necessary. because you can have the same dramatic -impetuous- and also there most important singers apart symphonic movement of the orchestra. so there integrated the orchestra. Now question is the balance. How loud can be the orchestra and how the conductor has to be very careful, that 's you see hear the singers. I would always like hear the singers. so that I can drag down the orchestra, but if I drag down too much, the orchestra lose their ways. and this is very crucial question, how can you remain with everything music is instrumentation and visual drama, the maximum possible from the orchestra because you want to hear also the orchestra and the orchestra is very important part. the orchestra with accompanies the singers but as everybody says, the orchestra has here probably the most important lines, the orchestra is playing from the beggining of the opera and till the end. singers sing the part of it, they have to go together. but the orchestra can be expressive, and also the beautiful sound -I mean also --exist-- this sound supreme character of the music. or dragged down -smashing something down -- this is not the merit. The merit is the balance between all. and is wonderful thing to conduct Wagner orchestra -- as conduct you have to love the singers. and also you have to love the orchestra. so to find this balance, that is really the most difficult thing, you know. difficult to have dramatic orchestra, and loud probably also beatiful sound, but then you don't pass the singers they said very important the words, text, only I don't agree one thing if only Wagner, Verdi always told singers, (Italian) "?? parole -la musica scritt io" it means pronounce well the words, I already wrote the music. (MC giggling)-- something important you can words better composer , we don't need good application interplitation but we need good performance. something perform it well.Go to PART3

Dr. Nicolas Reveles who hosts the panel discussion introduces the artists who are on the panel.first question:NR: What would you tell one of these people who has never seen "Tannhauser" before or who hasn't seen it in a super title era (audience laugh), what would you tell them to help them to prepare for the experience of seeing Tannhauser, I guess in a way I'm asking what are the things about Tannhauser we should look as an audience.Petra: From my point Venus is difficult to say, because Venus is not the most important people.Nick: oh, yes you are.- get overPetra: - but is very actual the man who is looking for the- to find the -- to rude a right steps, my point of view for him to make the decision for the more sensual sexual life or more pure life, Elizsabeth. to make a decision between Venus and Elizabeth, I think this is my approach to this piece.Conductor Gabor Otvos (he stands in - ) : For inside of Tannhauser is and even for Wagner himself, the most complicated piece and same time also the most popular. Wagner wrote two different versions, Dresden version and Paris version - and shortly before he died he said he never finished Tannhauser. But it doesn't interest public because is the most popular piece of Wagner. Why? Because of the beauty of this music also this is as Miss Lang said it was actually in the certain way from the texture from the same, musically wonderful piece, -now if I would be musically can't say what less than pieces what he wrote later, the fact is fascinating for everybody must have the reason and the story probably something which can be actual, can be also profession but something very romantic, big romantic opera of all the incredible romantic opera. My point of view it is miracle of beauty, wonderful music, very dramatic, I can't imagine somebody doesn't like Tannhauser, the fact afterwards, between the Dresden version and the Paris version he wrote, Meistersinger and Tristan, very important make the difference he learned a lot more instrumentation men think he should bigger schnell sound of orchestra, we do here Dresden version, the first version which is much more classic, I would say. Wagner, if you have misunderstanding for Wagner, then this is the most understandable Wagner. But I know all of our words fanatic so Wagner, like- - I don't like the Wagnerian because they like only Wagner (people laugh) so many other pieces also.Nick: so much more operatic universe,Gavor: But I'm sure I conduct Wagner, then for this time I also became Wagnerian (MC Nicolas Reveles laughs) Camilla Nylund (Elisabeth): everybody told that wonderful music, great chorus and lots of hit ? in it, what I like this very much of course Petra said that ,the humanity, struggle for these people in this piece about love and to choose, which way to choose what we human being choose every day so it's very interesting piece for me, to sing Elisabeth is wonderful, I have 2 great arias, I can be on the stage whole second act, the wonderful choir, and yeah (looking Gambill), I sing with the Tenor.(smiling) what do you want more?Nicolas Reveles : speaking with the Tenor?Robert Gambill: That's me (smiling). -- What's the question again, Nick? (people laugh) -- don't let me answer three questions I remember single question, when I was at home 9 o'clock in the evening, sitting there, zapping to the programme, I see Nick on the TV! (astonishing) (Nick laughs) he was telling us about Tannhauser, that's what you do. You turn on TV and you watch Him! (appointing him) tell you what is about. Don't ask the tenor! (laughing ) The tenor can't tell you the lots of staff, a point is he really knows it and I actually learn few amazing things about it who sang it only seventy times (audience laugh) . (いたずらっぽく咳払い) and -- it's a fun piece , you know, you just go out there and have fun. if we don't, you'd better not going out there. (smiling) and for me the big thing about Tannhauser tragic is a great fall kind of you know he goes out there partys, you know, he's gonna go out and live and gets out there nerves and he makes a big mistake. he find his mistake when he looks into her eyes (pointing fingers to Camilla's eyes) then he says "oops". and after that the in calms. I - extreams. kind of modern piece lookin it in a way this. and the days of extreams being black and white, this is good and this is bad, -- sorry (he touched down his water bottle)- for me that the important point, the biggest contrast between really good and being really bad. and in the end he is not so bad after all. Somebody says - "oh, I guess he's not gonna go another place after all" . your turn.(to Hampe, smiling)Hampe: I would say it's the story about fall and redemption sin and saving grace, it is said in The High Middle Ages (*), very strictly christian society, very strict more codex and I saw many of Wagner's male heroes, it's for most all about eyes of Richard Wagner. He transfered his personal feelings and problems into his stories. and Tannhauser also personanifized (personalized) great artist who goes further than other artists go. who has experiences, and accordingly recreates new things in this case new music which never has been heard and seen before. and at the same time through, going beyond every so far known limits. He's becoming the outcasts he becoming the man outlaw destroying other peoples'life. and that is his fall, that is where the saving grace is necessary and if you look through Wagners operas studying whole and for instance all the other operas always about this point and Wagner himself has had reputations of very ruthless for his art, not for his personality. For his art, he absolutley ruthless and destroying other people copes all along his biography, biographic way. So again Tannhauser was interesting for him he took the story to compose this theme , the Minnesinger, the great artists greatest europian poets starting in the middle ages like Walther von der Vogelweide he's still the basic poet of the German language and Wolfram von Eschenbach who wrote Parzival and other such great epic poems. and so he used their story to tell his own story. Accordingly he wrote his very personal music. and he also he had certain difficulty with this piece, he wrote first Dresden version later here he adapted it for Paris version chnaged it for Paris for Vienna again in Vienna he was trying to improve it and changed here and there. and in the end he said "I still owe the world Tannhäuser.(I still owe Tannhauser to the world)" (smiling).Russell: What can I possibly say after Director said? (smiling) um- for me I am in the same sense as you are, because I have very fresh ears for this. music of Wagner, I sang Wagner before, that's for me the really the core, I hope you enjoyed music create all the tensions, the character the music is still fundation for direction and Micheal Hampe always says this during rehersal period how really Wagner stage so many movement, gestures, interaction through the music that is to me great discovery and I come from more backgrounds much much more active on stage, I have to find some sort of inner tension that Wolfram has. and he is very deep character, very generous, idealistic, character who believes in the ideal friendship with Tannhauser and the even greater ideal love to Elisabeth, and only one of which he managed to obtain - that's the friendship with Tannhauser. (like dreaming with very gentle voice)James: NR: Great. Thank you all. One other thing about Wagner, singing Wagner, great misteek? about Wagner what we used to call "Wagnerian singers" I preffered to say singers to sing Wagner. There are so many misconceptions about it. What is like, addressed to singers, what is it, makes good Wagner singer? What is good Wagner singer? What you need?Petra: May I start?Nick: Yeah. Petra: no secret to be born to do this, I mean physically you have to right instrument inside your body. have to have right body right muscles to do this. have to be trained. You have to have training. young singers singin Wagners to sustain very long praises that the voice they re can cut the orchestra, you really have to have sung quite few years, you have to really build up to this. not about singing loudly just able to sing. but you have to have the quality of the voice, on the body just to do this.NR: just tell me the difference from amplifium from the volium of the voice, there has to be you called 'cut' , in a better word, a kind of edge, the point, but also you have to be beautiful, wonderling belle canto technik, italien technick you want to say German, you want to sing with heavy orchestra, would you agree Miss Nylund? CN: some kind of maybe - German Belle Canto, I don't know, of course you really have to have very good text, so that because of Wagner very impotant in text to tell the story I mean all operas but especially this German language, to have the voice really to stay above over the orchestra never to into the orchestra, because there's such a huge instrument. it's just your voice so people can't hear it -- to stay over the orchestra.Go to PART 2

Roméo et Juliette ; Gounod Saturday, December 15, 2007 Running time: 3 hours, 30 minutes.
