映画『ノッティングヒルの恋人』で有名なこの曲の製作秘話を紐解くTV番組を見ました。
元はフランスのシャンソン歌手シャルル・アズナヴールがテレビドラマの主題歌として歌った名曲だそうです。
作詞したハーバート・クレッツマーは、当時イギリス人女性と短い間恋をして、その女性に対する讃歌としてこれを作ったと言っていました。
この方、ミュージカル『レ・ミゼラブル』の作詞も担当されてる有名な方なんですね。
『Sheにいろんな言葉をぶら下げて彼女のために歌を作ろうと思ったんだ。』
実にロマンチックな、いい詩です。きれいに韻も踏んでます。
オリジナルは英語で作られましたが、その後、フランス語やスペイン語なんかでも歌われて大ヒットしました。
1970年代のことです。
1999年にこの曲を映画ノッティングヒルで使おうと決まった時、オリジナル曲を使うための許可が間に合わず、急遽リメイクすることになりました。
なぜ彼がそこまでしたかというと、彼のお父さん（ミュージシャン）が好んで歌っていた曲なんだそうですね。
それでスタジオに来るや否やお父さんに電話して、どんな風に歌ったらいいかと30分くらい電話で話していたとのこと。
この曲できれいな女性がルンバなんか踊ったら様になるだろうなあ。
