先日のデモ

ELO（エレクトリック・ライト・オーケストラ）のアルバムは２枚持ってるんですけどそのうちの一つ『Discovery』に入っています。

1979年の発売で、全英チャート５週連続１位という大ヒットアルバム。

チャチャの候補曲としてはこの他にも何曲か挙げていたんですが、これにしてよかったなあと当日思いました。

他の候補曲はみんなダンスタイムでかかってたんです。

アマデモとは言え、ちょっとは差を付けたいですもんね。

ドライブ感のあるイントロでオープニング曲にはぴったり、しかも終わり方もかっこいい。

『Don't bring me down』て、『がっかりさせないでよ』みたいな意味なんですね。

一緒に暮らしてる彼女の身勝手な行動が最近目について、彼としてはいろいろ文句言いたいらしいんです。

それに途中に出てくる意味不明な『grroosss』という単語も気になる。

というわけで、その辺りを大幅にカットして３分弱にまとめました。

それでも３分間チャチャ踊るのって結構たいへん。

競技会では１分半ですからね。

ちなみに後で調べたら『grroosss』というのは曲を作ったジェフ・リンの造語で意味はないとのこと。

ドイツでレコーディングされたせいか、大ヒット当時は『ドイツ語か？』みたいな真しやかな噂が一人歩きしたらしいんです。

ドイツ語で軽い挨拶に『グリュース・ゴット（Grüß Gott）』ってよく使うんですが、そのGrüß（英語ではgreetingの意味）かなって。

まあどっちにしろチャチャのイメージに合わなかったのでそこは全面カットしました。

この曲ならダンスタイムの音楽には絶対かぶらない自信があります。

意識した訳じゃなかったんですけど、このバンドも『われわれは宇宙人だ』っぽいですね。
