Given the airdrop craze of late, it is likely you have seen some of the crypto Twitter “threads” explaining how to farm various airdrops, foremost among which is the highly anticipated airdrop for Layer Zero. It is also likely you have not heard many of them discuss the reason Layer Zero in particular is such a game changer: OFTs.

Typically, I am not a fan of chasing airdrops. I find the time and money are better spent researching and testing out new dApps, and qualifying for many of the better airdrops organically by virtue of you on chain tinkering. That said, Layer Zero is a bit of a special case as an interoperability juggernaut, and the new and super innovative token standard called Omnichain Fungible Tokens (OFTs) that it has pioneered.

What is Layer Zero?

Layer Zero is a new type of interoperability protocol that relies on something called an Ultra Light Node (ULN). This is a new iteration of the previous bridges which required cross-chain liquidity pools or wrapped tokens, both of which had some glaring potential vulnerabilities. It is effectively a new form of cross-chain messaging system that builds on the mint-and-burn model, but streamlines it to allow for a new token standard that functions across all chains simultaneously … OFTs.
レイヤーゼロは、ウルトラライトノード(ULN)と呼ばれるものに依存する新しいタイプの相互運用性プロトコルです。これは、クロスチェーンの流動性プールやラップドトークンを必要とした以前のブリッジの新しい繰り返しであり、どちらもいくつかの明白な潜在的な脆弱性を持っていました。これは事実上、鋳造＆焼却モデルに基づいて構築された新しい形式のクロスチェーンメッセージングシステムですが、すべてのチェーンで同時に機能する新しいトークン標準を可能にするために合理化されています...OFTsです。

In simple terms, Layer Zero allows for a new type of cross-chain (Ominchain) token standard that enables native cross-chain liquidity, staking, governance, fee accrual, and more. Imagine a token that was able to be staked on one chain, and earn fees on multiple chains at the same time, or swap from one chain and end up on another for minimal gas fees.
簡単に言うと、レイヤーゼロは、ネイティブのクロスチェーン流動性、ステーキング、ガバナンス、手数料の発生などを可能にする新しいタイプのクロスチェーン(Ominchain)トークン標準を可能にします。1つのチェーンにステークされ、同時に複数のチェーンで手数料を稼ぐことができたトークンや、あるチェーンからスワップして別のチェーンで最小限のガス代で済むトークンを想像してみてください。
