パーカーさん、何時も濃いめの酒精強化ワインに点が甘いのですが、これもそんな気がします。良い作りで美味しいですが、此処まで持ち上げるのもどうかと思います。

葡萄ジュースにブランデーを添加した甘口のお酒です。フランスのピノー・デ・シャラントみたいなお酒です。

19度もあるし糖分もあるので痛みません。食後に一杯飲むには最高の一杯です。

マスカット種から造られたフォーティファイドワインです。マスカット種の果汁が発酵して
いる途中にスピリッツを加え発酵を止めることにより、糖分を残した甘口のワインです。貴腐ワインよりも甘くアルコールが強いため、抜栓後１ヶ月以上の保存が可能ですので、
飲み残しても大丈夫です。飲み残しは出来れば冷蔵庫に入れて下さい。

Chambers Rosewood Vineyards stands at the summit of fortified wine producers. The winery was started in 1858 and continues to be owned by the Chambers family. Some of the material for these blends is over 100 years old. As has been noted in Issues 168 and 173, they are the product of a solera system so there is total consistency from year to year. The lower end wines are spectacular values and the Rare bottlings approach perfection. They should not be missed.

My notes essentially read the same every year, even though the bottlings are non-vintage and I taste the most recent releases. Consistency and greatness are the norm at this Rutherglen winery. The average age is 7-10 years for the regular cuvees, about 70 years for the grand cuvees, and the ancient rare cuvees date back to soleras from 1890. It is redundant to keep repeating the same tasting notes, so readers will have to take my word for it ... this is one of the world’s most remarkable dessert wines, and is worth every effort to latch on to a half bottle or so.

The Muscat reveals a deep amber color in addition to a sweet, unctuous style, full body, and plenty of marmalade, molasses, honey, and caramel notes. I have cellared half bottles of these fortifieds for over 15 years, and there has been no degradation of quality during that time. However, once opened, they should be consumed within 3-4 days.

My tasting notes are virtually identical each year, and the wines are so special they almost defy accurate description.

This wine is a great buy. The wine exhibits a light to medium amber color as well as an extraordinary bouquet of molasses, brown sugar, roasted nuts, and sweet fruitcake. Unctuously-textured as well as juicy, sweet yet fabulously fragrant and well-balanced in the mouth, this is a spectacular fortified wine to savor slowly after dinner. After bottling it neither improves nor declines, and is capable of lasting up to a decade.

It is amazing how many sensational efforts emerge from this country. This luxurious offering possesses such extraordinary unctuosity, thickness, complexity, and richness that it must be tasted to be believed. It is not just a big, thick sugar ball, because it has sound underlying acidity as well as remarkable complexity and freshness. A spoonful or two is enough for most non-gluttons to appreciate the riveting heights this cuvee represents. At $15 this is a sensational bargain. The wine possesses notes of smoke, roasted nuts, coffee, brown sugar, maple syrup, prunes, honey, fruitcake, overripe orange/apricots, and remarkable spicy characters. This is a riveting example of a fortified dessert wine that I enthusiastically recommend. I use the Rosewood sweeties for many charitable meals/wine tastings I donate, and guests always go ga-ga over these rarities. In summary, life is too short not to try this wine ... a true Australian treasure.

There are two levels of quality - big and bigger. This is a decadent wine of extraordinary unctuosity, sweetness, and richness. This wine is between 6 and 10 years old, and is a viscous, super-sweet offering with a raisiny, pruny flavor.

The non-vintage Muscat exhibits a raisiny, prune-like character to its colossal fruit level. It is spectacular, as well as under-valued. Once in the bottle, it changes slowly, and thus can be kept for two decades.
