Coming to Noto-nakajima Station on Noto Railway Nanao Line, I watched Oyu 10 2565 (an old travelling/railway post office) exhibited there. When I visited Noto last time in 2013, I couldn't do it because it had been under repair. Since then, I had longed for watching the carriage.
The carriage had been in service between 1969 and 1986. It had carried mails and packets mainly between Tokyo and Hokkaido.
The mails and postal packages on the sorting shelves make the old-time atmosphere and tell how the post officers work in the carriage. Also, a Japanese classical post box stands in the carriage.
At the opposite end of the carriage, there is a space for unpacked or unsorted packages. The photographs of the travelling post offices in Japan and post office workers in the carriages are on the wall.
In only about fifteen-minute watching, I could know how the travelling post office was.
