パウエル前国務長官、カトリーナへの対応批判

ハリケーン被災地へ１７０００人追加投入

ブッシュ大統領は、土曜日、７０００人の兵士を被災地に投入すると発表。これとは別に、国防省が１００００人の国家警備隊員を追加投入を発表した。大統領は、「最大限の救助努力にも関わらず、まだまだ、助けを必要としている人々に十分届いていない」として、救助兵員の増強を決めた。被災地の面積は、イギリス本土の面積より広いという。この災害で、失業率が急増すると予想されている。経済への影響も心配される。もとの状態に復興するまでに数ヶ月、いや年単位でかかるのではなかろうか。今回の災害のように、大都市での堤防決壊が、いかに甚大な被害をもたらすか想像に難くない。最大風速60m級の台風が東京を襲ったら、と思うとぞっとする。参照記事：MSNBC　More resources and more troops　　　　（ニュース映像は右側のリンクをクリックしてみてください）
