Maserati Sedan Reviews

The luxury of a Maserati doesn't stop when the vehicle being crafted is not a sports car. The Italian company has been creating a variety of luxurious vehicles since its humble beginnings in 1914 including the Maserati sedan. The founders, a set of brothers with the name Maserati, begin the mission to set themselves apart from the crowd and it worked. The company was named after the brothers and even after several changes of hand that name is still the badge that defines the automobile by reputation alone.

The company began its transitions among other owners in 1937 when Citroen purchased it from the brothers that remained. Throughout a long period of time the company would go through multiple owners including Fiat and Ferrari. The final destination for the luxury vehicle was the Fiat Auto Group where it has been paired up with the Alfa Romeo. Still today there are plenty of sedans manufactured. The Maserati sedan may not gain the same easy recognition among enthusiasts as the sports coupe and convertible models, but it still is a blend of luxury.

The longest running Maserati sedan is the Quattroporte. This four door luxury vehicle is produced in Italy and has seen five generations built so far. The beginning of this vehicle, whose name is Italian for four doors, was in 1963 and that first generation would last for six years. It would possess a V8 engine and the choice of a manual or automatic transmission. It entered the arena at a time when the Maserati was on a growth spurt and received much popularity as it did. The second generation dropped the automatic transmission and only boasted a V6 under the hood.

The third generation of Quattroporte Maserati sedan entered the market in 1979 and went back to the choice of manual or automatic. It also brought back the V8 engine that was so widely received. With the fourth generation in 1994 buyers had a choice of a V6 or V8 with their purchase. The fifth generation entered in 2004 and is still running strong. This version offers three different trims that each boast their own special benefits and features. There is the base trim, the Sport GTS and the Executive GT.

There have been other versions of the Maserati sedan that have come and gone over the years. There have also been sister sedans that were offered by the parent companies. However the Quattroporte has been running for over half a century and is still going strong in terms of both style, luxury and popularity with buyers. The sedan is proof that the Maserati is not simply an Italian sports car. It has the potential to be a luxury vehicle of virtually any caliber. The powerful engines in the sedan allow for the speed one expects from a Maserati while the longer design allows for even more luxury.
