The Las Vegas Raiders lost more than their Week 4 game against the Chicago Bears . More concerning than the defeat was the injury to superstar left tackle Kolton Miller . Miller suffered a high-ankle sprain that's expected to sideline him for multiple weeks.
The injury to Miller comes at a brutal time. The Raiders finally got their run-game going in Week 4, with Ashton Jeanty exploding for three touchdowns . Miller is easily the Raiders' best offensive lineman. Chip Kelly's offense is going to miss him dearly.
The expectation is that veteran swing tackle Stone Forsythe will replace Miller . Forsythe previously played for head coach Pete Carroll in Seattle , with the two reuniting via free agency following his release from the New York Giants earlier this offseason. The unfortunate reality is that he's ill-equipped to replace Miller.
Forsythe earned a sizable 413 snaps for the Seahawks at right tackle last year due to injuries. He also struggled, and the Seahawks didn't bring him back this offseason after his rookie contract expired. Forsythe was credited with allowing 29 pressures in just six games. In matchups with Nick Bosa and Aidan Hutchinson , he allowed a combined 19 pressures.
The Raiders appeared to have made progress on their offensive line in Week 4. That's particularly why Miller's multi-week injury is a crushing blow. Indications are that Forsythe isn't an adequate replacement.
