Adam Schefter has a theory about LeBron James ' free agency, and it has nothing to do with basketball. The ESPN NFL insider was asked to weigh in on where James might land after leaving the Los Angeles Lakers . Despite his own team's reported interest, Schefter believes the four-time MVP is headed to South Florida.
"I still think that he's going to wind up in Miami . That's my guess," Schefter said, appearing on 97.5 The Fanatic . He added that a source had flagged Miami to him right at the start of free agency, and the tip stuck with him ever since.
Schefter's reasoning went beyond fit or contention. He pointed to something he feels has gone largely unnoticed in the LeBron sweepstakes.

"He has become a rabid golf fan, fanatical about it," Schefter said. "Every time I'm on social media, the guy's playing golf, he's watching golf. Where can he do the most of that? He can do that in Miami."
The take is not as far-fetched as it sounds. James' obsession with golf has become an open secret around the league in the past year, drawing notice from teammates and rivals alike. Golden State's Stephen Curry even brought it up unprompted while discussing James' free agency, joking that he was more interested in playing golf with James than basketball.
James' actual list of suitors remains crowded. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Cleveland Cavaliers , Miami Heat , and Philadelphia 76ers have emerged as clear frontrunners, with James reportedly taking the Sixers' pitch seriously after their trade for Jaylen Brown .
Reports have also indicated James' camp laid out a board of teams, from the Warriors to the Nuggets , as talks continue.
Whether Schefter's golf angle actually factors into the decision remains to be seen, but Miami's year-round golf weather certainly would not hurt its case. For now, NBA points leader is taking his time, and speculation, informed or otherwise, continues to fill the void.
