The Flyers are heading to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs after a shutout win over the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 6 on Wednesday night.
Dan Vladar was excellent in net, posting a 42-save shutout in the 1-0 overtime victory.
Per NHL stats, Vladar’s 42 saves were the fourth-most saves in a series-clinching shutout game.
“There was never a doubt. If somebody had a doubt that’s their problem,” Vladar told reporters after the game . “Good things happen to good people. There are good people in here, so we deserve this.”
Flyers defenseman Cam York scored the Game 6 winner with 2:30 left in overtime. After the goal he tossed his stick into the crowd before the Flyers celebrated on the ice.
The shutout was Vladar’s second of the playoffs after not having one throughout the regular season.
“He has been our backbone all year,” York said Monday, per NBC Sports Philadelphia . “When he’s that confident, that poised, it just bleeds through the room. He has been our MVP this year.”
Vladar, a 2015 third-round draft pick by the Bruins , signed a two-year deal with the Flyers last summer after four seasons with the Calgary Flames . He turned in a career year with a 29-14-7 record. The 28-year-old had a 2.42 GAA and a .906 save percentage in 52 appearances.
The Flyers now prepare for their round-two matchup against a well-rested Carolina Hurricanes team, who swept the Ottawa Senators in the first round.
The schedule will be released in the coming days.
