Mario Chalmers believes LeBron James ' free agency decision could come down to two Eastern Conference contenders. The two-time NBA champion, who won both of his titles alongside James in Miami , predicted that the Heat and Philadelphia 76ers stand as the frontrunners for the four-time MVP.
"It's hard to say, but I think it's between Miami and Philly. Those are my two top choices," Chalmers said.
The two spent six seasons together in Miami, forming part of the Heat's "Big Three" era alongside Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh . Chalmers served as the team's primary ball handler and a reliable outside shooter during the franchise's back-to-back championship runs in 2012 and 2013. That history gives his read added weight , even years removed from their playing days together.

"I feel like both of those teams are in a good win-now situation. Miami has still added a couple of pieces. I feel like Golden State is a good option, but I just don't see him staying in the West right now with the East wide open," Chalmers said, explaining why he settled on those two teams over other reported suitors like the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers . "That's the only thing."
The 2009 NBA All-Rookie Second Team member also broke down how James would fit into Philadelphia's roster, pointing to the "Big 4" potential alongside Jaylen Brown , Tyrese Maxey , and Joel Embiid . He believes James could slide into either forward spot while taking some of the ball-handling duties off Maxey, a shift he thinks would help the young guard's overall development.
The prediction marks a shift from Chalmers' own earlier stance . Just weeks ago, he had leaned toward the Warriors as James' likely landing spot, citing a "gut feeling" about Golden State despite acknowledging Miami's fit. His updated pick now lines up more closely with recent reporting from ESPN's Shams Charania , who has named the Cavaliers, Heat, and 76ers as the clearest frontrunners in James' search.
James has yet to announce a decision, and his camp has indicated the process could stretch on for some time as he weighs his options. Whichever team ultimately lands him, Chalmers' read reflects a growing belief across the league that James views the wide-open Eastern Conference as his best shot at another championship before his career winds down.
