Alex Cora wasted no time taking to social media after the Red Sox fired him Saturday night .
The former manager posted “Happy!” to X , as well sent that same text to several Red Sox reporters. He also shared two posts to his Instagram story.
The first was Cora with the other coaches who were fired alongside him , and Jason Varitek who was reassigned to a different role in the organization. The second was a reel of Mookie Betts , who the Red Sox traded in 2020, saying he still enjoys watching Red Sox games.
“Because of Alex Cora,” Betts said in 2025 on the “All the Smoke” podcast . “I love Alex Cora.
“Now, being personal and my personal relationship with Boston , as I said, I loved it, absolutely loved it. I still talk to front office people there and to AC,” he added . “I loved it.”
The timing of the post was certainly interesting. Cora wasn’t the manager of Boston in 2020 as he parted ways with the team the month before due to his his involvement in the Houston Astros sign-stealing scandal. Betts was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers a month later in February 2020.
When Cora returned to the team in 2021 it was without one its star players in Betts, who he managed for two seasons in 2018 — when the Red Sox won a World Series — and 2019.
It’s unclear what’s next for the 50-year-old. He said several times he doesn’t want to be an “old manager” and has expressed desire to move into a front-office role later in life.
Whatever is next for Cora is up to him, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see he has several options waiting for him .
