Drake Maye is only in his second professional season, but Robert Kraft already sees “a lot of similarities” between the 23-year-old and New England Patriots legend Tom Brady.
“They both have a sense of humility and they’re understated,” Kraft said on ESPN’s pregame coverage. “I saw Drake last year when we had that horrible record, he did something that Tommy did in the locker room in the early years. He used to go around to every offensive lineman, even after we had a bad loss, and, in a genuine way, make them feel that he really respected what they did.”
Kraft said something similar about Maye’s humility, calling it his “ greatest quality ” on the “Quick Snap” podcast with David Andrews and Brian Hoyer .
The Patriots owner continued his praise of Maye, calling him an “understated, young man.”
“He comes from a great family. He married his seventh-grade sweetheart,” he said. “He’s genuine and real and he can throw that long pass pretty accurately – and he can run.”
The Patriots in 2025 are a much different team than in 2024. Kraft made the decision to fire Jerod Mayo after just one season and hired Mike Vrabel not long after. Josh McDaniels also returned as the offensive coordinator.
The results? A 14-3 record, an AFC East title and an AFC Division game against the Houston Texans on Sunday afternoon.
Maye’s leap from Year 1 to Year 2 has put him in the MVP conversation , and it’s clear Kraft is quite fond off the quarterback both on and off the field.
