FOXBOROUGH - Drake Maye has had an up and down postseason thus far.
He’s made some jaw-dropping plays. But he’s also fumbled the ball a ton (six times, losing three) in the two playoff games.
Stefon Diggs, his leading receiver, said Wednesday he’s not concerned about his quarterback ahead of Sunday’s AFC Championship game with the Denver Broncos .
First off, Diggs pointed out that the Patriots have played two of the best defenses in the league with the LA Chargers and Houston Texans .
And, heading into Denver, with the Patriots about to face another dominant defense, Diggs doubled down on his support of Maye.
“Our quarterback continues to show up, especially in those moments where things can go left or right,” Diggs said. “He’s making the right reads. He’s making the right throws. He’s rolling with the punches.
“Playoff ball, it’s not going to be pretty. I’ll take our leader any day.”
Diggs also mentioned Maye’s ability to bounce back and have a short-term memory if plays go sideways.
“I don’t think any of his plays are really bad plays. It’s just part of football. I watch him, and his demeanor and his temperament throughout the game, it never changes. I think he’s consistent,” he said. “The more people that band behind him, you see it. Once he gets rolling, he’s real scary. He’s a young quarterback but he has had a maturation process second to none in my opinion.”
