Now a National Historic Landmark, the Fort King site was once an important military fort near the present-day city of Ocala. The fort was built in 1827 during the Seminole wars, and indicated the conflict that ensued between the United States and the Seminole tribe in the region at the time. The current fort is actually a replica of the original 19th-century site, and visitors to the park can gain insight into its history at the fort's visitor center.

Silver River is a four-miles (6 kilometers) long river that connects with the scenic Oaklawaha River in Florida. This river meanders through the Silver Springs State Park, which is perfect for kayakers who want to observe the wildlife that can be found in the state park’s dense woodlands. It is common to spot animals and birds like Rhesus monkeys and ospreys here. They even offer facilities for boat tours where visitors are taken on transparent boats that allow then to enjoy the underwater views.
