Missouri State Penitentiary

Built in the early 19th Century the Missouri State Penitentiary is one of the oldest structures in the city. It operated as a prison for 168 years and later replaced by the Jefferson City Correctional Center. A few of the famous inmates include names such as Kate Richards O'Hare, Emma Goldman, James Earl Ray and a few others. Over the years the prison has seen many deaths due to the riots and brawls. Today it is operated as a part museum where various tours like history tour, ghost tour and investigation tour are offered. Clark's Hill/Norton State Historic Site

Clark’s Hill/Norton State Historic State has a history that spans more than a two centuries! Named for the legendary explorer and former Missouri Governor, William Clark, the historic site commemorates one of the camps used by the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1804.

Missouri State Museum

The museum is located in the State Capitol and houses an impressive collection of exhibits portraying Missouri's natural and cultural history. The museum is spread over two galleries, and on display are exhibits displaying the history of Missouri State, its natural resources, the Civil War in Missouri, famous Missourians, the westward expansion, and other historic subjects and artifacts. Exhibits at the museum are changed periodically, and visitors are free to explore the museum at their own pace and can also avail of guided tours.
