St. Joan of Arc Chapel

This tiny French chapel was originally built in the 15th Century and moved stone-by-stone to the United States in 1927. It was reconstructed on Long Island after many protests from the French government, then it was eventually given to Marquette University and reconstructed once again, this time in Milwaukee. The chapel was officially dedicated to St. Joan of Arc on May 26, 1966 and today visitors make sure to stop by and appreciate this tiny gem.

Villa Terrace Museum & Gardens

In 1924, this stately mansion was modeled to the design of a villa in Lombardy, Italy, and today, fittingly houses a decorative arts museum. The Smith family privately owned the property for more than four decades, after which it was donated to the city of Milwaukee in 1966. Over the subsequent decade, it was converted into a museum. Since then, it has become a premier space for decorative arts in the city. The famous wrought iron master Cyril Colnik's work is displayed inside, alongside a replica of his workshop. Apart from this, the museum features an outstanding permanent collection of decorative arts dating back to the 15th Century. Besides the art exhibits, visitors will also find themselves enchanted by the architectural brilliance of this Renaissance-style villa, vis-à-vis its beautiful loggias, sculptures, delicate windows, and Tuscan columns.

Milwaukee River

Surging across 75 miles (120 kilometers) of diverse expanses, this river's enthusiastic waters quite literally cut the city of Milwaukee in half. Historically, Native American tribes flourished on the fertile banks of the river prior to European settlement and colonization. It is also known that Jacques Marquette and Louis Joliet used the Milwaukee River's natural flow to navigate their way to the Mississippi. The river's life-giving waters sustain numerous green spaces such as the parks of Hubbard, Estabrook, Lincoln and Pleasant Valley. Today, both the eastern and western ends of the river are home to a multitude of residential neighborhoods as swanky commercial estates, while the river itself plays host to a swarm of sightseeing boat cruises that show the sights and sounds of Milwaukee from a different perspective.
