Arthur Bryant's Barbeque

Kansas City is famous for its barbecue, and this restaurant is one of the reasons why. Arthur Bryant's has been serving up slabs of slow cooked pork and beef since the 1930's. The small building is nothing fancy and resides in a somewhat disreputable part of town, but diners do not necessarily come for the ambiance. Nevertheless, Mr. Bryant has a couple of other locations around town. Casual dining is an understatement here, where guests line up, sometimes waiting up to 30 minutes just to order at the counter. Be sure to order a plate of greasy, delicious fries, and be prepared for huge portions.

Extra Virgin

Owned by Michael Smith, perhaps best known for his James Beard award, Extra Virgin has a great tapas list for you to savor. The Mediterranean style menu has dishes like beef heart and gizzard skewers, crispy trotter cakes and duck tongue tacos that you can relish. The French onion soup and grilled oyster mushrooms are also delicious. The patio, which seats 50, is perfect for enjoying a meal and cocktail with friends.

Cascone's Italian Restaurant

Established in 1954 by the Cascone family, who still own and operate what are now three locations, this restaurant offers a full dinner menu and a cocktail lounge. Etched glass windows at this location create a cozy atmosphere and give diners privacy. The service is excellent. The restaurant offers a full array of appetizing pasta dishes. Although a popular place for intimate gatherings and business luncheons, it is also a place where families feel at home.

The Westside Local

American cuisine crafted from fresh, local produce is what you are served at The Westside Local. This restaurant strives to give patrons a farm-to-table experience in the truest sense, and has breakfast, brunch and dinner menus featuring delicious local fare. After starters like three-cheese plates and deviled eggs there are a number of sandwiches and entrées for you to gorge on. The grilled portobello mushroom and apple sage chicken salad are just two of the many sandwiches you can try. Halcyon mussels, beef tenderloin and chipotle glazed salmon are the mouthwatering entrées you can devour. Many cocktails and spirits are also available.

Trezo Mare Restaurant & Lounge

Patrons are welcomed in a chic, elegant ambiance with sophisticated seating spaces, pleasant lighting, and prompt service. Each dish is made to order with the finest ingredients and freshest local produce. The menu features a variety of starters, soups, salads, pizzas, entrees, pastas, grilled specials, and seafood preparations, all flavored the Italian way. To accompany your meals, they offer an impressive wine menu that will please the oenophile in you. Apart from premium wines, crafty cocktails and other potent libations are on offer as well. The restaurant is ideal for business luncheons and private dinners.

Grinders

Started by a prominent Kansas City sculptor to help revive the Crossroads Art District, Grinders is now the premier spot for great food, art, music, and fun. Interesting daily specials include a Hungarian food night, half off Death wings, and cheap mimosas. Live music by big name bands can be seen in the field behind the bar, which doubles as a sculpture garden. More sculptures, paintings, and prints are inside to view or to buy.
