The injury news coming out of Foxborough hasn’t been great this week.
Ahead of Sunday’s meeting with the Jets, it got worse.
The Patriots announced they were placing wide receiver Mack Hollins (abdomen) on injured reserve. Hollins apparently suffered the injury during Sunday’s win over the Baltimore Ravens .
So he’ll miss the final two regular season games, as well as two playoff games, if the Patriots advance.
That’s a tough blow at this stage.
Hollins had become a trusted target for Drake Maye . He had 46 catches, 550 yards and two touchdowns. He was also a big help as a blocker in the run game.
In other news, the Patriots signed DL Jeremiah Pharms to the 53-man roster. They also elevated defensive back Kobee Minor and defensive lineman Leonard Taylor III from the practice squad.
With six starters ( Kayshon Boutte , Mack Hollins, Harold Landry , Robert Spillane , Khyiris Tonga , Jared Wilson ) already ruled out, and Milton Williams not being activated off IR after a week of practice, the Patriots were thin at quite a few positions.
Running back TreVeyon Henderson (concussion), wide receiver DeMario Douglas (hamstring) and defensive back Charles Woods (ankle) are questionable for the Jets game.
With the Patriots not elevating a receiver, that would appear to be good news with respect to Douglas’ availability for the game.
Both Pharms and Taylor will shore up the defensive line with Tonga and Williams out.
With Woods questionable, and both Carlton Davis III and Marcus Jones banged up, Minor provides a measure of insurance in the secondary.
