So Chelsea, you wanna see how young players are gonna handle the moment, the stage, the opportunity, and the bottom line is the first game that Carson Benge played in a New York Met uniform, he homered.
You know what that is?
That's pretty good to me.
I'm not asking Carson Benge to go and be one of the Mets best hitters.
What I want from this youngster is growth.
I want to see a player who gets better and better and better as the season goes along.
And Sal, I think at the bottom of the order he's gonna thrive, he's gonna be fine.
I don't think you have anything to worry about.
I think the key thing is your word growth, and you saw that in this game.
That to me is what you, you take away from Carson Benge, where he struck out early on a couple of times- Right not looking good.
You're thinking, "Oh, maybe he's overmatched."
I didn't think he looked good going after the home runs in the outfield.
He didn't know where those balls were.
First one, all right, you wanna say the wind, whatever.
The second one, it looked like he didn't even trace that.
It didn't look like Benge belonged early on.
Then he had that walk, and all of a sudden maybe started to get a little confidence, then he hits the laser beam into right field.
So growth is the key word for Benge, and I think you saw that even within just the first game of the season
