Carson Benge makes the Mets, what that says about what's next | BNNY
On SNY's Baseball Night in NY, Dave Lennon and John Harper react to the news that Carson Benge made the Mets roster and will start in right field on Opening Day.

Dave, here we are.
Benge finally makes it.
What do you think?
it was his job to lose, wasn't it, guys?
I mean, the Mets kinda telegraphed this move from the start.
they talked about Benge's, you know, potential to play, be the right fielder here.
And then what really did it for me, I thought, was fairly obvious when they said, "Oh yeah, Juan Soto's gonna play left field-" Yeah "when the season starts."
And it's like, "Oh, wow.
Where did that come from?"
So the wheels were in motion, I think, very early here, and they had a lot of confidence in this kid.
He's a confident guy, obviously talented, had really burst onto the scene last year in the minors.
So I think it's a good, solid move.
He's the first guy since Pete Alonso to make the team out of camp, and they have that kinda Alonso-type faith in him.
I, I'm, I was there when they, when Alonso made the team that time, and he just so deserved it.
And in Benge's case, it's deserved, and also, there was a hole there that had to be filled, and Benge stepped up and took the job.
Yeah, still says a lot about him, though.
He was under the gun from day one in spring training.
He knew that, it, it was his job to lose, and he delivered.
You know, he gave 'em a good spring.
He, everything I heard about him was what I saw, you know.
He's a natural hitter.
He uses all fields, goes the oth- other way.
The power will come.
He doesn't have a lot of pow- power, but he's a contact guy.
I think that's what they're really impressed with, the Mets about him.
And he only, he's only played 24 games in Triple-A, so this is a big step up here, and he showed he can do it.
Wasn't, you know, wasn't afraid of the big stage right away, so it looks like a good sign, that he's, he's ready to go it looks like.
