Brent Suter is expected to sign with the Angels, and that leaves now a void in the Reds bullpen, bullpen, excuse me.
Veteran left-hander Brent Suter is closing in on a Major League deal with the Los Angeles Angels, according to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.
the thirty-six-year-old spent, the last two seasons with the Reds, has been one of the more reliable middle, middle relief options in baseball over the past decade.
He doesn't throw hard.
Suter is a finesse guy, but he's really carved out a long career by keeping the walks down, keeping that hard contact down, forcing weak contact, and he posts-- he's posted a three five seven career ERA.
and for an Angels team that was pretty bad, and posted the third highest team ERA, this is actually a pretty good move.
But his time in Cincinnati, he joined the Reds, ahead of the twenty twenty-four season.
He be- became a key part of that Royals bull, Reds bullpen.
in his first year with Cincinnati, he made forty-seven appearances and had a three one five ERA.
and then he got another deal.
So last season, he made forty-eight appearances.
His four five two ERA, though, was a career worst.
his average exit velocity and extension both landed in the ninety-ninth percentile, but his hard hit percentage set in the ninety-sixth percentile.
So those numbers, like you're gonna look at that ERA, but the advanced numbers were actually really good for Suter.
and Cincinnati declined his twenty twenty-six option in November, and that made him a free agent.
So, listen, with a lot of pieces that the Angels are getting together, I understand it.
for Cincinnati, it's a big bullpen, turnover, right?
Nick Martinez, Scott Barlow left in free agency, but they got Pierce Johnson, they got Caleb Ferguson.
They acquired Brock Burke in a trade, so they're building pitching over there in Cincinnati, starting and bullpen.
So, Brent Suter was a great piece for a couple years, but now he moves on to, Anaheim to try to help them get out of their rebuild.
