Brewers Eliminate Padres 3-1 as Michael King Opt-Out Looms

The Milwaukee Brewers ended San Diego's season with a 3-1 win Wednesday in the NLDS. Manny Machado came agonizingly close as the tying run in the eighth: his projected 406-foot fly ball, which Statcast says would have been a homer in 19 other parks, landed in Garrett Mitchell's glove. Near misses piled up all series, from a Game 1 drive that hit the American Family Field roof to a Game 2 that came within a strike of securing home field advantage. Now the 91-win Padres face a busy offseason, with starter Michael King widely expected to opt out, reliever Adrian Morejon likely to draw big offers and several rotation spots to fill.
