Carlos Mendoza, Bo Bichette, Brett Baty and Huascar Brazoban look back at wild Mets win in D.C.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza called it a "crazy game" while Bo Bichette, Brett Baty and Huascar Brazoban talked about "battling" even when it appeared the game was slipping away from the Mets. Their 16-7 win over the Nationals had seen them squander a lead in the 11th inning, only to explode for eight runs in the 12th. Bichette snapped an extra-base hit drought with his third HR of the season and Baty launched a 451-foot bomb earlier in the game. Brazaoban escaped jams in the 10th and 11th innings to keep the Mets in it and eventually pull out the win.

Like you said, it was, you know, emotional, tense in 10th, 11th inning.
How do you put into words just going from that to what happened in the 12th?
It's crazy, man.
E- every day you see something new in baseball, right?
and we're f- we're, we're seeing a lot right now, but I'm glad that we're coming on, on the good side of the thing, the, the story.
it's just good to see the guys, you know, picking each other up and just keep going as a team.
that's, like I say, it's 26 really good players that we got in that room.
So even though with a lot of the players that we're missing, we feel really good with the personnel that we got.
What can you say about Brazoban tonight?
Oh my God, I mean, he keeps doing it.
I mean, this guy, and, and a lot of them, you know?
We're asking guys to open, we're asking guys to get huge outs for us in the middle of the game, to come in late, with runners on base.
And Brazob today, even though they scored that run right there, it was basically two swing and bun.
he continues to, get the job done.
He continues to attack, he continues to get ground balls.
The situation is never too big for him.
Bases loaded there against a pretty good hitter on Abrams, and he executes the change up.
man, all of those guys, but Brazoban, huge.
Bo, you know in this league that you're gonna go through ups and downs, but, but when you go through a stretch like that and then you hit that home run, does that feel like a little bit of a, a weight gets lifted?
Um- Try yeah, it felt good.
I mean, I've been I feel like I've had- No way a lot of swings that have been really close lately, and I was just kinda waiting for something to connect to, I guess, feel good about it.
So yeah, felt good.
When you say you, you felt like a lot of swings were pretty close, w- what about your swings or, or your at bats recently have made you feel that way?
I mean, good at bats and just missing balls, just not quite hitting them how I want to.
So, hit it how I want it to.
Given the, you know, big win you guys had over the weekend and the dramatic way you guys won yesterday, what does it say to come out and keep this going with a win like this in extra innings?
We're just doing our job, showing up every day and trying to win games.
And, you know, when you win games, you start to kinda feel what it feels like, and you just try to keep that going.
So it's, uh- Hey, good job it's fun to win, fun to come to the park right now.
Brett, how do you sort of describe the swing of, like, a very tense 10th, 11th inning to what happened in the 12th?
It's really hard to describe.
me and AJ were talking about it.
It was a really competitive ballgame, the whole way through, and then we kinda broke it open there in the, the 12th, so.
The 12th, right?
12th.
Yeah.
What, what does that feel like when you, when you finally do do that?
it was great.
It was, it was awesome.
it's just battling all night.
a really long game, but we battled, so.
You guys had a pretty emotional weekend with the Subway Series.
What does it say that you came here and didn't let down at all after the high of beating the Yankees a couple of games?
Yeah.
it's huge.
Just come in here and try to win game one.

Really good.

Oscar, can you just kinda take us into the mindset of a pitcher that, that is pitching under those conditions back to back innings?
Yeah, no, so I, so I was I went out there to, to, to throw my best, my best pitch.
Obviously, they, they know what it is, but, after I saw him swing at, swing at that changeup, after on, on the second pitch- Yeah I thought that I could, I could beat him out with that sinker there at the end.
