He then puts in print, "Why don't I just send you my login for Card Ladder, and you can go to the collection and just look at the whole thing?"

Un-freaking-real.

I, I would put a caveat.

Like, don't do that.

Most people- Do it don't share your login information.

But- Share it with everybody but I would say- Nothing proprietary.

It's okay there is a way, you could either just export it, which I, I don't even like that 'cause I like the fact that you can check it in the system.

I think this is just something that Card Ladder could add, is a share feature.

That's fun.

Actually- Maybe, and maybe they have it.

Maybe they have it and I don't know it that's possible.

All I know is I literally was able to go through, see the entire collection value.

I went through and spot checked a whole bunch of them just in case.

I then made my own, 'cause what was it?

Under, it was under the collection.

I made my own folder.

I was like, "Hey, I'm gonna move all the cards- Yeah I'm interested in to the folder," 'cause it was 20 or 30 cards of guys driving in circles or kicking a ball.

I don't want those sports at all 'cause they're not sports.

But F1 is blowing up.

He's like, "I'll take 70% done," boom.

Point being- It did seem easy I told him, I was like, "That is the easiest, smoothest lot purchase I have ever made in my life."

So the point being is that we have been in a time where these cards were undervalued.

They were Now, we are now seeing a correction up because that was an undervalued moment in time.

Now we're seeing, okay, well, now they're up.

It doesn't mean that, oh, this is a bubble that's up.

It means that, oh, this is just where they were more than likely supposed to be had the general audience of card collectors known that they were there.

So I, I, I actually like that idea.

But, I mean, I do think it is also it has got some merit considering the popularity of the characters, of the IP, and just the overall card collecting community.

So that is, that's something I, I would like to look into more, but I'm assuming you have data here that you wanna share.

Here's the other thing I would just tell you.

There is an unbelievable direct correlation to when Gary Vee and Logan Paul start talking about stuff and prices move.

Gary is- Logan Paul's only been talking about, Pokemon.

He has not really gotten into the non-sport area.

Logan Paul had a 48-minute discussion that was sent to me on Gary Vee's podcast.

It has a lot more listeners than ours, so absolutely false.

He talks about all of this stuff.

Gary promotes it, too.

I'm just- Fantastic I'm saying it's mainly Gary who's been pushing.

This whole notion of like, well, the rookie, you know, first appearance in sports cards is now a thing in cards.

Because one person says it does not mean it's a thing.

However, it i- it obviously is a thing now.

So a couple examples.

We talked about the Metal Universe card, the recei- It's the first time Marvel came into football cards.

There's three or four quarterbacks, running backs, receivers.

You're familiar with this.

Like, the receivers are all Spider-Man.

The first Yeah, yeah, yeah.

The quarterbacks are all Cap- You're saying the first time the Marvel w- entered the sports card world.

I believe that was the first appearance of these guys on a football card that was pack-pulled from a main distributor.

I, I would be willing to bet you're absolutely right.

I can't imagine there's a lot of Marvel sports cards.

But I'm, I'm pretty sure it's I mean, it was Metal Football, so again, a football product, not Marvel.

I didn't know it exists, and I think it's a cool card."

T- so yesterday it sells for 1,125.

Before that, like 700 bucks, 500 bucks, 300 bucks, and if we go back to the start of the year, you're talking like 150 bucks.

These are not healthy things.

Of course you I, I don't think you w- But, but I- I don't think you're gonna agree with any of this I also have a, a lot of reason why you're making the comment about it, but continue.

The reason I'm making the comment is this is And again, it's not This is a stolen thought.

It is almost identical to the whole Marvel pump we saw when Steve Aoki and Gary Vee were selling their stuff a few years ago, and it was this massive spike like this.

You at least say, "Hey, you should take some o-" forget take some off the table.

Some of this crap, there's a- I think there's gonna be a lot of people that'd be very happy with that.

I just mean when, when you see people talking specifically about cards, and it's way more specific than it used to be, 'cause now it's like, "Man, you gotta look at first appearance in sports cards.

Like, what's that set?

It's just like- I just don't, I, I just am done trusting people's motives, honestly Well, I know, but you're not a very trustworthy Like, you don't trust a lot of people Cr- I'm critical.

Correct and- And I think, 'cause I think there's way more shadiness here, and I think if you take out the financial end of it- Mm-hmm By the way, that's the reason I bite my tongue at times about some Topps Sports releases.

I'm financially vested.

I try to have some honesty about it, and I've ripped some products apart, but I'm probably a little softer on it than I should be.

I think you do the same for non-sport.

I just think in that world, it's like being critical is just, like, this crazy thing and no one talks about it I don't think there's anything wrong with being critical about it, and I think it's healthy to keep a critical eye on it.

And I've made several comments about my takes on print runs, about, printing, quality of these cards.

But there's also the idea that we're entering an era where, like I mentioned before, you're seeing people take notice of this IP of the Marvel Universe, of non-sports in general, and they didn't realize, like, oh, this could have value other than the $50 it was selling for, the $10 it was selling for, because there's that many more people now chasing it.

If there's scarcity involved and there's demand- Which there's not, by the way.

The majority of the cards I'm talking about, wildly over-print Pr- regular prints, not over-printed Well- A lot of them Do- Very accessible Do you know that?

I mean, like, do you know that these are wildly over-printed?

No, no, that's why I stopped myself.

They are There is a healthy print run of all these.

They are not wildly over-printed, but you can find them for sale in any grade at any time.

And if you look back over the last six month- or eight months from the beginning of the year- Uh-huh multiple sales, every single card, every single day, if not week So that's the Jerry Rice Spider-Man.

You're, these are the- That whole set Metal Universe, the 1997 Spider-Man- The 1997 Okay There's 1998 Griffey So- The Bat- and the Batman card the 1966- It's a red background Uh-huh Yeah, that's another one So can I just ask- Anything, yes What about, what about the rest of the market that is going up right now with Spider-Man, with Batman, with all the non-sport cards?

Like, where- What about it?

What's your excuse for those going up?

If these are being pumped- There's no excuse.

I think new people are coming in because they're listening to people who just, like, did it in '21.

"Hey, somebody popular and famous is talking about it.

Let's just run in, rush."

By the way, they said the same thing in sports cards.

Mm-hmm Giannis rookies took I'm not even saying these are bad cards.

Michael Jordan rookies spiking back then.

Yeah, Jordan's a GOAT.

I get worried when people come in and every comp is a multiplier of the comp before it.

I think that is a sign of a super unhealthy thing, and I couple that with people talking about it with big microphones and very little criticism, because now it's just, "Ah, it's just such a n- " And this actually is not about you.

I'm not trying to be coy with you.

Mm-hmm Like, Gary and all these guys.

"Ah, it's just a real nuanced thing, man.

It's a niche thing.

It's finally having a moment."

It's like, well, it's not having a It's a manufactured You and your friends are talking about it very publicly.

It's not having a moment.

You are creating a moment for it.

Which is fine.

Nothing wrong with bringing attention.

Where, though, is the pushback of like, "Hey, guys, maybe wait a couple days and see if this card should have 19X'd in three days."

well, I mean- Maybe you could, you could definitely do that.

Or if you did that, you could mi- miss out on the train.

Let me ask you, so how many, how many PSA 10s, or, let's How many PSA 8s, 9s, or 10s?

You can guess either of tho- any of those, of that card, the Jerry Rice specific one.

Oh, I'm sure it's unbelievably low, if any.

Okay, so- And those are not the cards I'm talking about.

I, I, I- So that's a, that's weird that you would- I'm talking about raw sales you would j- just guess that they're unbelievably low, and yet you're saying that there's more than enough cards out there, that there's a ton out there.

What- I didn't say graded.

I'm s- I'm saying raw sales.

If you go on here in mid-grade- I understand five to seven I understand.

If it's, if it's a raw grade, th- that would indicate that a 10 or a nine are going to sell- So would a pop count multiple X, right?

So there's a PSA 8, there's 89 of them.

Okay PSA 9, there's 66.

Yep PSA 10, there's six of them.

Great So if there is such high printing of these, it, it The, the fact of you can get a raw copy for, whatever, $400, whatever it's selling for, that does not mean that that is a price that is blown out of proportion when we're looking at cards that, as an eight, are still getting 89 Or there's only 89 of them, and as an eight are still selling for It looks like the last one sold last week for 250 bucks or something Which card?

The Jerry Rice?

Yeah Yeah, so now a raw sells for five times that.

I got news for you, by the way.

Here's the caveat to Metal.

Unbelievably horrible grades.

Anybody who knows cards knows that.

Metal cards do not grade.

That's why PMGs as a four sell for a huge multiplier.

So you explain to me why an eight, which is crazy rare, is getting outbid by 5X on a raw card Because people look at it and they're hoping for a nine or a 10, just like most people And that's my fear I mean, but- Because people don't If you come in and think you're gonna buy that card raw- Mm-hmm I, my pushback would be, "Do you know anything about cards?"

And probably not.

That is probably one of the first cards you buy.

'Cause otherwise- you would know, A, do what you just did in 30 seconds, look up pop counts.

You're probably not getting the grade.

B, what are you actually buying?

Metal does not grade.

It's bricked up.

It's a h- it's a great product.

But as time goes on, those edges Again, peop- That, here's- Here is my worry, though But here's the concern, Mike, is you're coming from the point of view of someone who is a business sports card person.

And the people that- No, I'm talking as a collector I- This has nothing to b- I'm not business investing in this at all Well, well, the, you are in some sense because we're talking about money to begin with.

Mm-hmm.

Because, like, most people, if they like the card, they buy it.

And they- I'll say this feel comfortable with that price.

In, in the- Stupid in the, in the non-sport world- Right and specifically more TCG world, that's where those people are coming from.

And that's where I think a lot of these buyers are coming in from as well.

Ugh It's not just the sports card people.

It's the TCG people coming in, and they buy things based on that And they don't pay attention to comps or history or anything?

And I'm not- They're just coming in blind- I'm not saying that.

No, I'm not saying that So what are you saying?

I'm saying that if there's a few sales that have sold for higher amounts, it's because those people wanted those cards and maybe they wanted to try and get a nine or a 10 in it.

But either way, they see it as, oh, well it's a all-time great athlete, and you have one of the biggest IP Spider-Man characters in the world.

No one argues that.

Sure So why would it be so cr- excuse me, crazy to think that this chara- or this card would go up in value once people realized it was out there?

You think- over the course of two months, 40X-ing just 'cause people came in and wanted the card What do you Can I ask you what you think is actually happening then?

I think people like Gary and other people are shilling this stuff up because they're financially invested in it.

That's what I think.

So you're thinking that they're talking about it, and their value's are going up I don't think they're talking about it Well, you're, you're They definitely are I'm saying but you're connecting the two, that they're talking about it, and therefore value's going up on it Just like in 2021- Mm-hmm when they did the same thing with sports cards, and a bunch of new people came in, and, "Yeah, I want the card," and they're stupid.

They don't do any research.

So it- They just buy the first card they see- Are they not in- and they way overpay, and then the market drops 80%.

As someone who talks about these cards as well, are we not allowed to talk about it?

No, you're allowed to.

I just wish some- Or do we- of you guys would push back and be like Do we tell, do we tell people, "Don't buy it"?

I don't hear that a lot, no.

I hear how everything's going up, and the IPs are unbelievably valuable, and everything's great.

Yeah, that's why, that's my point is why, why would we If we're, we're talking about something that we really like and we love- You don't think you should- I'm not saying- warn people, though?

Like, "Hey, I know you love the card.

Guess what?

Spider-Man is still Spider-Man in four months when this whole buzz has chilled off."

That's what, but that's your- "Jerry Rice is still the greatest receiver of all time in four months when things calm down."

I think that is, it's a fair warning for anybody to put out there, like, "Hey, buy at your own risk," but I don't think it's a necessary thing for someone to say, "Hey, I love this card.

This is really cool.

Let me go into all the ideas of why you should or should not buy at this price."

Not all of them.

But- "This thing is being talked about by the biggest guy in the hobby, Gary Vee.

The comps are off the charts over the past few months.

I think you should be careful buying right now."

Okay.

The same in any market.

"Hey, don't go buy that house on Emory Bay for a million dollars when the comps a month ago were $400,000.

Maybe that's a sign of a bubble or something nefarious."

I would say that you are basing a few sales, like, 'cause I think it literally, if I go to CardLadder, I'm seeing that have sold for over 100, I think there's maybe 20 sales- What are you talking about?

What- that have gone for That card.

What card?

I think there's maybe- Sorry this Jerry Rice card.

Jerry Rice Spider-Man card.

Mm-hmm.

'Cause I know that's the one you had pulled up.

That's the one we were talking about specifically.

There's, like, 20 sales that have sold over 100.

And, and there are a few sales that have sold There was one that sold as much as $550, some that sold for 400-plus, but m- majority were, you know, somewhere around that, that area, area for raw cards.

Mm-hmm.

So it's not a ton of people.

There are some people that are buying them at higher prices, and if that's the people that are wanting to buy it, I Go nuts.

If they, if they If it was, like, a, oh, everybody's going out there, and this is, like, a, a pandemic of people misspending their money, I think then we would have a bigger issue of, like, yeah, let's put out some more warnings.

But at this point, there's a few people that have bought it at a higher price.

Okay.

Allow them to go out and do it if they want.

Oh, I'm allowing.

I don't, I just, I hope they don't do the same thing with sports cards.

So they can price their cards higher, and therefore $80 no longer seems like a big issue to get a card graded, because- Right, 80 bucks on a $900 card, who cares?
