Cubs Bolster Pitching, Brewers Stay Content: Analysis
The Chicago Cubs enhance their playoff pitching, while the Milwaukee Brewers fortify the team identity as they gear up for a deep run in the postseason.

What they did get, though, is a lot of other arms.
They needed to address the pitching.
Yeah.
And that's exactly what they did.
So- Agreed.
Agreed.
You know, offensively, there's nothing wrong, I think, with the Cubs.
The Cubs are, have more than enough offense to be able to make a run at this.
It was always the pitching to me that was gonna hold them back.
Yeah, and, and I think, Joe, I, I Look, I could be wrong about this, 'cause I'm not in that clubhouse every day, and I don't cover that team, so I can't really speak exactly.
But Joe, don't you kinda get the sense that the Brewers just love being who they are?
You know?
Yeah.
They love being that little pesky team.
Very content.
And they love the guys.
Yep.
And they, and they like their manager, and they like the guys around them.
And that's the other thing too, Joe, is that maybe they don't wanna disrupt what they have going on.
And, and, and I gotta believe- Yep Joe, you know, Matt Arnold, who's their GM, probably says to himself, he would never admit it, "Are we good enough to beat the Dodgers?
No.
Okay.
Is there really anybody out there, is Skubal gonna guarantee us beating the Dodgers?
No."
Right.
"And we're probably still not good enough to beat the Dodgers, 'cause guess what?
Skubal's gonna pitch one time in a five-game series."
Correct.
Or, or, you know, so, the Brewers just, you know, they're, they Look, you, we're gonna indict them if they get knocked out again in the postseason.
And then next year where they're gonna start off in April, they're gonna be 12 and 14, and we're gonna go, "Oh, maybe this is the year."
And then they're gonna come on and they're gonna win again.
But, baseball's a business- Yep Joe, and you gotta fill seats.
And if the Brewers, Joe, I got news for you, if they're one of the best home teams in baseball every season, they're gonna sell out almost every game.
People wanna go.
They wanna go see- Yep winning baseball in Wisconsin, you know?
This is not like living in South Florida or Tampa where there's a million things to do.
What are you gonna do in Wisconsin?
You're going to the games.
You're going to Green Bay.
You're going to Milwaukee.
You're going to watch football, baseball.
And, and y- you gotta build yourself that way.
So, you know, Brewers would love to at the end of the season look back, hang up a pennant that they won the division, win a playoff, win a round in the playoffs, and then if they lose, they'll probably say, "All right.
Well, you know, okay.
That, that was the season that we had."
Yep.
And so be it.
And it, and it's not a disappointing season for them.
Now, on the outside looking in, people, "Oh, why don't they do enough?
Why don't they get Lindor?"
You know?
"Why don't they go get- Yep this guy, that guy?"
I, and I understand it, but not, not in, not with this, collective bargaining agreement.
There's just, it, it, they don't have the opportunity to do some of the things that others don't.
And what does it tell you that they have the number one prospect in all of baseball?
By the way, after a year ago calling up the other number one prospect- Mm-hmm in all of baseball, Jackson Chourio, right?
Now they have, uh- Yep Jesus Maid, I think is his name.
He's the number one prospect in baseball again.
They're gonna call him up.
He's gonna be good too.
I, listen, I think the inter- out of sight, out of mind sometimes, right?
Craig, we forget.
I don't mem- I know if, if folks remember how good Clay Holmes looked early on in the season for the Mets.
He had made some adjustment to his mechanics.
He was adding some different pi- and then he ends up, you know, getting one off the leg there against the Yankees I think it was.
You know, he's been rehabbing, and all indications are, you know, this guy's a frontline starter.
It might be the trade of the deadline if he can, if he can be that go-to guy, for the Cubs here.
I, I, I think, I think it's gonna be interesting, 'cause I really did like what I was seeing from him, and then all of a sudden he got hurt, and then that was the end of that.
Yeah.
And, and look, you gotta understand that this time of the year, that's part of it too.
Injuries, that's the other thing.
You know, I, I, I would tell you this, Joe.
This is, this is what's gonna happen, 'cause it happens every year in baseball.
So if you want another little prediction, some I get right, some I get wrong, not right on everything.
There's gonna be a team amongst the ones that we've talked about.
Let's l- let's use Baltimore- Texas, Seattle.
Who's the other team in the west that's fighting?
Who am I missing?
Seattle, Texas, and who's the third team that's fighting, out west?
Houston.

Yep.
There's gonna be a team that's gonna now lose a lot.
And- Yep and, and what, and what we're gonna say is, "Well, you know, the team is probably sitting in that clubhouse very disappointed that they didn't get anyone, and the morale is bad, and blah, blah, blah."
And, and it's just sh- and it, and I'm telling you, it's just the reality of the game- Yep that things go up- Yep and they go down.
Now, now is there, is it possible that you bring in a player and that player infuses you?
Maybe those two pitchers infuse, San Diego.
Yep.
Maybe the Cubs feel a lot better about the guys they got.
Yes.
But I got news for you.
Those teams were gonna lose anyway if they're gonna lose now.
It has nothing to do with adding, with adding or subtracting players.
Teams win and lose- Yep over the course of the season.
And in September, there's gonna be some team that's gonna get super hot, and that's gonna roll all the way to the ALCS or the NLCS that we didn't see coming.
They may not win the World Series, because they don't have- Yep the, the money of the, the Dodgers or the Yankees.
We get that, okay?
But there's gonna be some surprise team.
It's sports.
It happens every year.
Someone in that final four is gonna be somebody that we're not thinking about right now.
