What is up, Cubs fans?
And welcome back to Cubs Roundtable.
I'm Joey Polizzi, talking about all things Cubs.
And the Cubs will soon get a boost to their rotation.
Matthew Boyd should be making his return back to the Cubs rotation here within the next few days.
Boyd has been on the shelf since May 6th when he tore his meniscus while playing with his kids at home.
But now Boyd is set to return this week.
With Boyd, it has been a while since he has pitched because he did undergo surgery on his meniscus partially on May 7th.
At that time, he was given about a six-week recovery timeline, and he'll return shortly before that six-week timeline as Boyd will likely start into the rotation this weekend against the Giants.
Boyd needed just two rehab starts with the AAA Iowa Cubs, and that should be enough to activate him off the injured list.
Boyd, in his first start on May 31st, gave up three runs, two earned runs across four innings, and then recently gave up five runs on five hits with five strikeouts across five innings.
But the most important thing with Boyd in these two rehab starts were making sure that he got these outings healthy.
All signs point to that being good.
And second was building up his pitch count.
Well, Boyd in his most recent start built up to 80 pitches.
So Boyd should be good to slot back in the rotation this weekend, and will almost certainly replace Jameson Taillon in the rotation as Taillon is set to go on the injured list after leaving his start early on Sunday due to a hamstring strain.
Boyd obviously is a boost.
Taillon, going on the injured list.
Seems like the Cubs can't get healthy and have all their starters all healthy at once, but getting back Boyd is a big boost to this Cubs rotation.
But let me know what you guys think about getting Boyd back.
Are you excited to have him back?
What do you think his numbers are gonna be?
Before his injury, Boyd had his best start of the season, six in- six innings of two run ball against the Diamondbacks back on May 3rd.
Can we expect more of that moving forward?
Let me know down below.
And as always, guys, go Cubs go.
