Cubs Place Daniel Palencia On Injured List With Right Elbow Inflammation
Chicago's bullpen depth faces another blow as right-hander Daniel Palencia lands on the shelf. The flamethrower's declining velocity and elbow inflammation leave a massive void in high-leverage innings.

What is up Cubs fans and welcome back to Cubs Roundtable.
I'm Joey Polizzi talking about all things Cubs and the injuries continue to haunt the Chicago Cubs as Daniel Palencia was placed on the 15-day injury list due to right elbow inflammation before Tuesday's contest against the Colorado Rockies.
Obviously, Palencia landing on the injury list is not great news for the Cubs and this comes after his relief appearance on Monday in a non-save situation where he walked one batter and struck out three across one scoreless innings.
But Palencia was not his usual self in that outing as his average velocity in that relief appearance was a bit down.
He had only one pitch thrown over 100 miles per hour and three pitches thrown under 97.5 miles per hour.
And with Palencia, that's just unlike him.
For context, in his last relief appearance before Monday's game, Palencia had 10 pitches over 100 miles per hour thrown and none under 98 miles per hour thrown back on June 10th, which is his second to last relief appearance.
So obviously something was bothering Palencia and we found out that Bruce Levine reported that Palencia felt something in his elbow, decided to, you know, pitch through it, but has now eventually landed on the injured list.
Obviously a big loss for the Cubs, losing a guy in the ninth inning who was your go-to guy in the ninth, who is really that go-to closer the Cubs have been relying on for most of the past two seasons.
Yeah, he hasn't seen many save chances, but having him in the ninth inning in a case of save situations was always big for the Cubs.
Now the Cubs will probably go with a closer by committee.
Jacob Webb's probably gonna get some save opportunities here moving forward as he has been the Cubs' most consistent reliever since the beginning of May.
But losing Palencia hurts and hopefully he doesn't miss too much time here moving forward.
But let me know what you guys think about this, this injury and losing Palencia for an extended period of time.
And as always, guys, go Cubs go.
