Freddy Peralta sharp in three-inning stint, 'excited' to be named starter on Opening Day
New Mets ace Freddy Peralta tossed three perfect innings against the Cardinals on Friday, also found out he will be the Opening Day starter. Peralta was "excited" for himself and his family, especially since this is his first season in New York.

How'd you feel?
felt really good.
Really good.
What was your reaction when, when Jose told you you would be starting on opening day?
you know, as, as, as the same, the same reaction that I had, like, in the years previous.
It was the same, this time.
You know, excited and, and, and it feels like a commitment for me and, and for, for my family, too.
to be able to get the ball on the first day.
Coming to a new team, did you expect that sort of thing?
Sorry, if I expect what?
Coming to a new team, did you expect to be the opening pitcher?
you know, you never know.
I was wishing to be.
but you know, I knew that I was coming to a new team.
like I said before, for me it doesn't have It doesn't matter if I was going to pitch the first day or, or the second or third.
It don't matter.
It just, be myself and gi- give the rest of myself and try to win the ball game.
How many opening games you pitched number one?
two for them.
Two?
So this is gonna be the third one.
Okay.
What were those emotions like being the opening day guy for the Brewers?
It's Man, it's amazing.
like I said, amazing.
you feel like I can f- from, from myself, I can tell that you feel all the energy of, of everybody.
and the last two opening days for my career, they were both in New York.
2024 against the Mets, and last year against the Yankees.
So it was very exciting.
How about pitching against Paul Skenes?
He's the man.
I think that he's amazing pitcher, pitcher.
Great pitcher.
And, I know for sure that we're gonna win a compete.
How have you felt, like, fitting in with the rest of the team in the first couple weeks of spring training?
I think that we're doing, really good.
we're doing the little things, that really matters, and, and, and I think that we, we are accomplishing together, like, good little things and, and hopefully we put all that together for, for the first game of the season and the rest of the season.
What you've seen in the first two weeks has made you open to extension talks or anything like that?
Man, what I can say is that everything's been amazing.
Talking from, from the bottom to the top, like, I mean, like, people from the office, everyone.
they've been very easy for me, easy to, to work with and, and you know, I'm just happy to, to Because I, I feel that they have my back.
If you were gonna do something like that, would it have to be done before opening day, or would you still be open to doing it during the season?
for me it don't matter.
Just, I think that whenever the moments come, we can work on it.
