Why are Aston Villa signing Alejandro Garnacho?

Name a better duo than Villa and signing Premier League wingers whose stock has tanked.

First Rashford, then Sancho, then Elliott, now Garnacho.

They say insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result, and the initial three names didn't exactly set the world alight at Villa.

But will Garnacho buck the trend?

Firstly, and most importantly, he's an Emery signing.

The Villa manager wanted Garnacho last summer and believes that he can be the man to unlock the Chelsea winger.

Let's be fair here, Garnacho was very highly rated as a Man United youngster and clearly has potential.

Whilst he has to take some of the blame for the failings at Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge, it's also fair to say that very few attackers thrived in the systems that the Argentinian winger was playing in.

They could get Garnacho on what would've been viewed as a bargain two years ago.

They need depth, they need wingers, and they need ready-made options, and Garnacho ticks those boxes.

Is it cynical to suggest that they also need to do Chelsea a favor?

Their 117 million bid for Morgan Rogers seemingly came from nowhere, and Villa now throwing money at a player Chelsea are absolutely desperate to sell is convenient.

Coincidence?

Who knows.

Whatever happens, Villa are unlikely to lose out too much when it comes to signing Garnacho.

They can probably recoup most of the transfer fee for him, considering he would basically be Neymar in Italy or Spain.

Emery has revived many a career in his time, but this could have the biggest upside of the lot
