The Green Bay Packers have brought in their Jeff Hafley replacement.
As they are hiring former Arizona Cardinals head coach.
Jonathan Gannon as their next defensive coordinator.
Gannon coached the Cardinals for the last three seasons, and they didn't have much success.
Their defense also struggled in that time span.
But the good thing for Gannon is his track record as a defensive coordinator during his time with the Eagles, gives some hope for Packers fans.
Gannon was a part of the Eagles that reached the Super Bowl in the 2022 season.
And they had one of the best defenses in the league.
Gannon was the play caller for that defense, and that gives some hope for maximizing players.
Like Micah Parsons, Edgerrin Cooper, Xavier McKinney, Evan Williams.
But what really separates Gannon is he, before becoming a defensive coordinator, was a defensive backs coach, and that is something that the Packers need to do better.
Job of maximizing the talent.
Green Bay's cornerback room in the 20 25 season was their biggest weakness.
On defense.
They struggled to contain receivers downfield, as evidenced in the playoff game against the Chicago Bears and just throughout the season.
They have a talented pass rush with Micah Parsons.
They have a good safety duo with McKinney and Williams.
Edgerrin Cooper is a great middle linebacker, but the outside cornerback for the Packers all season long.
Now, part of it will be on Brian Gutekunst to upgrade that cornerback room, but Gannon being able to develop and maximize those be key for him as he becomes the next defensive coordinator.
