Hey everyone, Taryn Kovach here with Round Table Sports for a quick Seattle Mariners update.
So for those of you who have obviously been following the team this year, you'll have known that, the Mariners have kind of dealt with a strain of injuries this year.
One of the biggest ones to, catcher Cal Raleigh, who was placed on the ten-day injured list with a right oblique strain on May fourteenth after trying to battle through that injury for a bit.
but he has begun, baseball activities according to a report from MLB.com's Daniel Kramer, via pre-game comments made by manager Dan Wilson before a game against the Athletics on Monday.
Raleigh was scheduled for a light catching session on Monday, marking his first, bit of baseball activity since being placed on the injured list.
He's currently at the team's spring training, slash, practice facility in Peoria, Arizona, and per Kramer's report will likely stay there, for the next little while while he's rehabbing.
Now, Raleigh had a slow start to the year, kind of like a lot of the Mariners better hitters, Josh Naylor and Julio Rodriguez.
But Raleigh, who's been dealing with this injury since at least the beginning of May, he missed three games total against the Kansas City Royals and Atlanta Braves due to it.
wasn't able to start heating up like, Rodriguez and Naylor were before, landing on the shelf.
through, through forty-one games this year, he slashed from one sixty-one, two forty-three, three seventeen with a five-sixty OPS with four double, seven home runs and eighteen RBIs.
And this injured list stint is the first significant one of his Major League career.
obviously the Mariners, despite being twenty-five and twenty-nine entering Monday, are-- were still right in the thick of the American League playoff standings.
They entered Monday's game against the Athletics who are first in the ALS two point five games behind them for first place and also a game behind the Minnesota Twins for the final AL wild card spot.
So, Mariners obviously can still go on a run, still create separation, really at any point here in the next little bit, to get right back into, firm stance in the playoff standings.
And Raleigh, returning healthy, returning to the form we've seen him, such as last year when he was an American League MVP finalist, will be key for the Mariners to do that.
