The Las Vegas Raiders are set to play their first preseason game of the twenty-twenty/six season on Thursday, and some important questions are going to be asked and will be answered by the time the game is here.
I'm Justin Church of AZ Sports Las Vegas, and of course, everybody wants to know who's gonna play, how much those players are gonna play, and what is that gonna look like.
And we probably won't know that until after the game because coaches, they just kinda don't wanna give that kinda stuff away.
But we do know that Clint Kubiak has said the starters will play, which means Kirk Cousins, Brock Bowers, Maxx Crosby, the starters will play.
Now, we don't know how much.
We can assume that it's not gonna be the entire game because that would kinda just be silly.
But, we also know that the rookies are gonna play.
Fernando Mendoza's gonna get significant amount of reps, from what Clint Kubiak has said.
And now, he's let us know that Jamal McCoy, the cornerback that everybody has been waiting to see, will get quite a bit of reps.
When he was asked if there's any limitations on rookie cornerback Jamal McCoy, he said, "We expect him to play and expect him to compete, and we're excited to see him play."
And I think everybody's excited to see him play.
This is a guy who, we all know the story, but I have to say it, could've been the best cornerback in this draft, and he still might for all we know.
But that knee injury, the lingering knee injury that has a whole bunch of layers to it that I'm really not gonna get into, that knee injury made, every team in the league pass on him, even the Raiders.
The Raiders didn't draft him until the fourth round.
Now, they traded up in the fourth round to go get him because they seen that they just couldn't pass up that opportunity again.
But Jamal McCoy is a fourth-round c- cornerback who was really supposed to be a first rounder.
So in a way, we're all waiting to see two first rounders for this Raiders team.
We're waiting to see Fernando, we're all waiting to see McCoy.
McCoy's a little different.
We wanna see the talent, and we want to see, you know, what it is that he can do and what the potential will look like.
But with McCoy, we also wanna see, okay, is he fully healthy?
How does, how does it look right now at this point of the off-season where he's trying to get back in football shape?
'Cause mind you, he hasn't played a, in, in a full year.
But it's good to know that there's no limitations, and it's good to know that, the Raiders plan on playing him.
They plan I mean, there's really only one way that you can get better, and that's by playing.
And if he's ready for that, the Raiders are up for the challenge too.
So it's gonna be fun to watch.
Thursday's gonna be a blast.
Football is back, and the Raiders are back.
