Mitchell reportedly has 'solidified' status as WR2

Jets wide receiver, Adonai Mitchell, has reportedly solidified his status as the number two wide receiver this off-season.
I think this passes the smell test.
Garrett Wilson is the wide receiver one, and first round rookie, Omar Cooper, is probably a solid wide receiver three option in at least the first few games, if not the first season of his career.
That leaves the number two wide receiver option up for grabs, and Adonai Mitchell seized that opportunity last year.
From week 12 to week fi- week 17, he averaged nearly 50 yards per game.
They pulled him a little early in week 18, and his first game, week 11 with the team, both was poor, but also not entirely his fault in that he was just joining the team.
When you look at the games in which he played meaningful snaps and had some understanding of the offense, 50 yards per game, as bad as the Jets were last year, is pretty good.
I do think, at least in terms of routes, he probably is this team's wide receiver two pretty much the entirety of 2026.
One place I think this could lead fantasy managers astray, however, is if we don't play in points per routes league, and I do think Omar Cooper probably fits more closely with what Geno Smith can do at this point in his career, particularly when you look at where he operates and where Adonai Mitchell operates in terms of their depth of target.
Adonai Mitchell's an intermediate and downfield chunk play specialist, specialist.
Geno Smith ranked outside the top 30 quarterbacks in completion rate and yards per attempt on throws 10 plus yards downfield last year.
He just can't do that at this point in his career anymore.
I think if you're looking at how this offense can operate at its best, obviously it's Garrett Wilson wide receiver one, and it's Omar Cooper providing a lot of YAC on short and intermediate targets that Adonai Mitchell just does not do.
So for me, if I'm drafting the wide receiver two in the Jets, I know it might be Adonai Mitchell by routes, but by fantasy points, I'm betting on Omar Cooper.
