MSU HC Pat Fitzgerald Team Building_ Why Every Year is a Fresh Start

Video Transcript

Because you had continuity one place, um, is there anything that you're learning about kind of taking over a program?

Yeah, I think that's , I think it's a very fair outlook, but I, I look at it a little differently.

I think every team is new, especially now in the era when you have So many new players each year.

I think you gotta go back to, to ground zero or back to A before we can even get to, you know, QRSTUV, um, and so I, I kind of always approach it that way, you know, where maybe us as a staff, those that have been here for a while, we kind of know and, you know, I say go, you know, rip , we go right or Liz, we go left, whatever that may be.

Um, same thing in all three phases, right?

Same thing with the strength program.

We're pretty much through most of that.

I mean , really, once we get through the Notre Dame game, you know, we'll kind of be, well, you know, I guess it'll be the Wisconsin game.

We'll kind of be the last check the box of the regular season of how we handle pregame warmup, how we handle halftime, right?

You, you know what I mean?

Like all these things and how we want to do it.

Now, we're preparing for all those.

We have plans for all those.

So, um, There'll be, there's just a little bit more from the nuance of the new here for everybody, but it's new for everyone.

Whereas we move forward, our young guys will be able to, you know, be a year older, a year wiser, and they'll help the next group, if that makes sense.

Um, and that's, I think it's a trap of when you're at a place for a long time that you assume everybody knows what to do and how to do it.

And so we always approach it the other way around that it's, it's a new team every year.
