Raiders HC Klint Kubiak Calling Plays & Leading the Team
Video Transcript
Following that Thursday, um, running the team and calling plays at the same time, how do you anticipate approaching that for the first time ?
Yeah, I think it'll be baptism by fire.
I'll, I'll be finding out pretty quick what it's all about here on Thursday.
Again, I'm not doing it alone.
Never called a game by myself.
We do it with the whole offensive staff, uh, relying on the defensive staff, on coach Joe De Camilo, on special teams.
Uh, it is, every NFL game takes, uh, takes the whole staff, and And all the players, so it will not be, not be, uh, on my own, but I'll definitely have a lot to learn real fast.
Every coach and player that we've spoken to at this point have all echoed the same message.
There's no I in team.
It's we.
Everybody's really bought into what you've tried to establish here as an early culture center.
What does that mean to you being a first-year head coach that this early on, everybody is brought in?
Yeah, well, I think, uh, I would say compliment our players is that it's not so much about listening to me.
It's about what it takes to win.
We want to win.
Our players want to win.
And, uh, you know, the things that it takes to win is for us to be together and be connected and, and operate as one unit.
So I think it just shows the maturity of our group knowing, um, you know, we're going to point things out, but at the end of the day, uh, they decide what kind of team that they want to be and, you know, thus far, they've showed us they're a mature group that, you know, they want to go win games the right way.
Clint, there, for young coaches, there's so much learning about the head coaching, whether it's when to throw the red flag here and from upstairs.
How much of that do you game plan with Mike with just in learning and how much can a practice like this in the preseason help prepare you for that?
It be very important.
Uh, Mike McCoy, you know, Rohit, Joe De Camila, um, you know, we're all, we spend a lot of time together.
Our coordinators talking through situations and how things are gonna play out and the mechanics of, of all those things that you discussed, and, you know, you can't, uh, you can't duplicate the game.
You need to go do it in the preseason and we got to go.
Uh, make sure our communication is very crisp, and we're on point and ready for situations before they occur.
That's what the offseasons about and we spend a lot of time with that.
So, uh, You know, we're going to get put to the test on Thursday, so we got to go do our jobs.
