Raiders HC Klint Kubiak Team Prepares for Houston Joint Practice
Video Transcript
You mentioned how excited you were for the joint practice in Houston this week.
How do you prepare your team these next couple of days as you guys get to Houston?
Yeah, well, you know, things shouldn't change.
The intensity is going to ramp up, but, you know, the standards that we have here should carry over to Houston .
Clay, when you looked at Fernando's sack, I covered Matthew Stafford, his rookie year.
That to me was a Kind of an NFL learning sack.
I don't think he makes that halfway through a year.
Did, did you see it the same way?
Yeah, in the red zone.
Yeah, yeah, I think he's a team sack, you know, we weren't, we weren't as detailed with the routes.
You can't take a sack in the red zone.
Got to protect them better, so the whole team, you know, the whole offense took that sack, not just him.
Have you decided how you're, um, digging up snaps, uh, for the preseason game?
Yes, we have, you know, we have a plan ready for how we want to practice against Texans and how we want to play, and, uh, you know, I'm gonna keep that in house.
You mentioned Fernando could get some opportunities with the ones.
What does he need to show you in practice to expand those rep opportunities?
Oh, well, I just want him to just keep getting better, you know, him, Aiden, Kirk, all those guys just keep improving.
You know, there's not one thing we're looking for.
There's a, there's a million things, but we got to get him focusing on the details of each play and take it one rep at a time down to down.
And if he has that mentality as well as the other guys, they will continue to improve.
I would just start, uh, hand.
He spent a lot of time in the offseason, but you could tell he made improvements from, you know, from April coming back here to training camp.
He'll continue to get better.
Just got to give him our reps. Darren Porter is one of those guys that can a jump from year 1 to year 2, which you see him this offseason and where is he?
I think, you know, you look at the NFL, so many players, you know, they make big jobs year one to year two.
He has the, the ability to do it.
Uh, I think he's a guy, and I said this about Fernando, that is an ascending player that we are counting on, and, uh, you know, he's just gonna keep getting more confident.
We got a great coach in Joe Woods, great coach in Matt that's preparing him for, uh, for the season to come.
