San Diego vs. Arizona: Crucial Baseball Matchup Tonight

And then, tonight we've got a real big one between San Diego and Arizona, and, Arizona's got some cakey schedule coming up here.
So San Diego really needs to get this one.
I mean, there's a possibility, I was thinking about this, Joe, that with Arizona playing Colorado at home next week, that a week from now we could I mean, look, it's, it's gonna be far from done, but we could be looking at the Diamondbacks opening up a pretty significant wildcard lead based on their schedule.
So something just to keep an eye on here as we move forward.
Well, it's interesting.
And, and by the way, if you folks keeping score at home will notice he blew right over the Twins and his favorite team Royals game, but that's all right.
I'm not letting him get off the hook that quickly.
But it's interesting because they've played, this'll be the 10th time Arizona and the Padres have played this year.
Arizona leads 5-4, and wouldn't you know it, Craig, I believe the final, weekend series of the regular season, they play each other at Petco in San Diego.
Oh, there you go.
So- Wow.
Okay.
Yeah yeah, I mean, you wanna talk about, you know, this could be So a- again, it's been almost split down the middle.
If Arizona's able to pull it out tonight, they'll have a 6-4 lead, so tiebreakers obviously matter.
But yeah, I, I mean, for the most part, i- I don't see a lot of difference between these two teams.
Uh- Me either I don't think when You know, you got a rookie lefty last night they made look like Cy Young.
They got another rookie lefty going here tonight, Arizona does.
I don't know why anybody would think that can't happen again, 'cause they, the Padres aren't exactly hitting left-handed pitching all that well.
But, you know, Walker Buehler, here we go again.
All these new shiny toys you got.
I mentioned to you yesterday, I don't like Casey Mize, 11 days off.
I, guys are creatures of habit, you know, pitchers, and he didn't look all that sharp last night.
And of course, they ended up paying the price here.
But, you know, Walker Buehler's gonna have to eat some innings here over the next, couple of weeks here, and they're gonna need him and a few other guys to be able to step up and get it done.
To me, it's all about do we trust the bats enough?
Has there been enough consistency that you've seen with the Padres?
And you saw them here in Miami.
I, I, they talk about woefully underperformed this year, but I really did think they turned a corner, and I think if they can have a pretty good finish till August heading into September, I think anything is possible with them as well.
You, you would think that the Padres when they're right would have a more formidable lineup than the Diamondbacks.
You, when they're- going right.
Now, that has not been the case at all this season.
April and May was a zero for Tatis- Sure and a zero for Machado.
And, you know, they had Merrill carrying them and Sheets.
But those four guys right there, like, that's really good- Yeah Joe.
Like Machado, Tatis, Merrill, and Sheets.
Yep.
I think that- Yep beats the Diamondbacks, right?
Like therefore- All day I think, yeah, th- that beats the Diamondbacks.
But the Diamondbacks are seemingly just more of a function of playing great defense and run prevention.
Games are close.
Their guys don't blow you away.
They get into the fifth, sixth inning.
They have deeper starting pitching.
Yeah, the Padres have a better eighth and ninth.
It, it, you're right, man.
It, it's, it's really close between these two teams.
It could come down to the last three games of the season.
Yep.
So, you know, that's very possible.
I mean, the, the, the other development that we're seeing happening is that, you know, it's interesting that you mention that, 'cause for Miami's purposes and St. Louis's purposes- and Pittsburgh, that's the worst scenario for them, is these two teams- Yes just beating up on each other the final three games of the season, 'cause then they can't really make any ground.
