Lucas Panzica highlights that the Tennessee Volunteers getting David Gabriel Georges' signature over Ohio State, could be the biggest off the field win in the Josh Heupel era. David Gabriel George means a lot to Tennessee football in more ways than one.
After the five-star running back pledged to the Vols last Wednesday, all sorts of possibilities start to flash through your mind on what that offense could look like with a talent like DGG running into light boxes.
And of course, that is what is most important.
But another thing that the DGG commitment did for Tennessee is finally give the Vols a win over Ohio State.
These two have not typically been rivals in the course of their history, but they have clashed on and off the field in the last few years.
Of course, in the 2024 College Football Playoff, Tennessee went up to Columbus and got smacked by Ohio State.
And then fast-forward a couple of years in the battle for four-star athlete Legend Bay, who signed with Tennessee but clearly wanted to be at Ohio State, was released from his national letter of intent and ended up going back to the Buckeyes.
And I think Ohio State fans thought this was gonna be more of the same with David Gabriel George.
In fact, Ohio State offered DGG's roommate at Baylor, who had no power conference offers, in now what looks like a desperate attempt to get DGG on campus.
And yes, NIL has a lot to do with it, but Tennessee should be commended for how Josh Heupel and his coaching staff operated in establishing the relationship with David Gabriel George in this process.
And finally, in the Josh Heupel era, the Vols get one over on the Buckeyes.
