How much of this do you kind of pin on how the, you know, whole c- the athletic department's operating with Cody Campbell, and the fact, Bill, that we know they, they probably invested $35 to $40 million in this roster and 5 million into Shores B?
It's like, yeah, well, you could probably get another quarterback, but not now.
Like, there's nobody else there, and you need that, that centerpiece to be able to get this done.
I mean, it's the most important position.
With Brendan Swarsby, Texas Tech is a top 10 team.
They're probably the Big 12 favorite.
They don't play BYU or Utah.
Their, their schedule's pretty friendly.
Without him, even if Will Hammond comes back from a torn ACL in week one or week two, they're probably 20 to 22.
So yeah, it's, it is a huge deal.
And, and something we were talking about in that last segment, it's like i- if, if Ohio State, one of their high investment players ran into some trouble, yes, I, I'm sure Buckeye fans would defend them, de- defend him.
But again, there's a line.
And I think the way I don't think you would hear Ohio State boosters coming out and talking the way Cody Campbell is a- and taking shots at other schools.
you know, I think the athletic department would have a much more measured response, don't you?
I mean, Ryan Day certainly would have a more res- measured response than, Joey McGuire.
It would probably be more of a let the facts play out type deal.
I would anticipate most schools would have that.
And, and that's what I'm just trying to figure.
I mean, Cody Campbell I think has done a great, some great stuff for Texas Tech.
we'll get into some of the other stuff that he, he's got going on there.
But I mean, nobody knew who this guy really was, Bill, what, a year ago?
Right.
Maybe, you know, six months even.
And, you know, just with the proliferation of NIL and his prominence now talking and dealing with stuff, and he's an alum, he played there, I get all of those things.
But, you know, the, the Georgia comment and different stuff was almost crazy, Bill, to see that y- I feel like Texas Tech over the next couple years while it's still Before something gets done, they wanna try to make as big as push as possible to set themselves up for the future with where they're at and the trajectory they're headed.
And it seems like some of the stuff they've been doing in social media might be working contradictory to their, ultimate objective.
Well, I, you know, in the NIL era we're in now, it doesn't surprise me that the Texas schools are spending the way that they are.
There are five schools from Texas, five FBS schools, that are in our top 25, preseason top 25.
It's not just, Texas Tech spending a ton of money.
SMU, you know, they're an ACC They bought their way into the ACC and, and they're contending every year.
We know Texas is gonna spend money.
We know Texas A&M's gonna spend money, and Houston's in the top 25 now, and Houston has a good coach in Willie Fritz, and they're gonna be around.
So all of these It's like a kinda real life episode of "Landman" in some ways that the, these schools are building their corporation, so to speak.
A- and Texas Tech wants to be a part of that.
So everything Cody Campbell has done I understand, but it's like when you start popping off at Georgia and, you know, Joey McGuire in front of the Touchdown Club, which I take with a grain of salt, st- starts com- you know, he says it's not murder.
Well, we know, we know.
We also know it's not a speeding ticket.
So I, I think what Brendan Swarsby did, with the gambling, it's just something that most college football fans with common sense know you can't do without consequence
