A Chicago White Sox legend has announced his retirement from Major League Baseball.
Former shortstop Tim Anderson, calling it quits, announced it on Monday morning.
Anderson, the seventeenth overall pick by the White Sox back in the two thousand thirteen MLB draft.
And while he had a brief career, a brief prime, that is, of his career, the peaks with Anderson were peaks unlike anything the White Sox had really seen.
Just an iconic face of the franchise, even a face of baseball at times.
Two-time All-Star, a batting title winner, a Silver Slugger at shortstop.
The man responsible for so many iconic moments in White Sox history, including the walk-off home run at the Field of Dreams.
Over eight seasons in a White Sox uniform, Tim Anderson, ninety-eight home runs, a hundred and seventy-nine doubles, over one thousand hits, and a two eighty-two batting average.
At his peak, he was one of the most captivating players in the game.
The man known as TA7, soft-spoken off the field, but a fire and energy that he brought to the ballpark every day that was contagious throughout the White Sox clubhouse.
In the second half of twenty twenty-two though, the prime started to become short-lived because Anderson's power quickly faded.
The bat to ball skills that he built his career on quickly faded after that.
And in twenty twenty-three, he hit just two forty-five with a five eighty-two OPS, leading to the end of his White Sox tenure.
TA had brief stints with the Miami Marlins, with the Los Angeles Angels in twenty twenty-five, and now announces his retirement from Major League Baseball, but will still be remembered as an iconic figure in franchise history.
Did a lot of work in the city of Chicago, helped popular-popularize the sport of baseball in the city of Chicago.
And as I mentioned earlier, responsible s- for some of the most iconic moments for a White Sox team in twenty twenty and twenty twenty-one that went to the playoffs in consecutive years for the first time in franchise history.
So while his career may have ended sooner than expected and while his prime was short-lived, Tim Anderson's impact on the White Sox will endure because for a generation of fans, TA7 is a reminder that confidence, excitement, and a belief that baseball is supposed to be fun every single day.
That is his memory, that is his legacy after a great ten-year career in Major League Baseball for Tim Anderson.
