One of the more fascinating NFL careers in recent memory came to an end apparently this week, Danny Carter, when Russell Wilson announced he was hanging up his cleats after 14 seasons.
He hit the league like a third round meteor in 2012.
The star right off the bat.
For a while he was maybe underrated.
At some points he was maybe overrated.
He was often maligned because of kind of just a strange, unique, some would say corny personality, but maybe he's just a really happy guy.
We don't know.
Fascinating player.
I mean, he's now going into the media working for CBS.
What kind of legacy does Russell Wilson leave behind after 14 years in the NFL?
I mean, he was shockingly productive, especially for a quarterback who really was a game manager type of guy for a dominant Seattle Seahawks team, back in his heyday with Pete Carroll as, as head coach.
Russell Wilson, despite some really awful seasons late in his career, is going to retire with a touchdown rate of around 6%.
Oof.
he threw an interception on less than 2% of his pass attempts.
That's really good.
he was over, eight yards per attempt, six times in his career.
That's also good.
So I do think that he's We can kind of forget about how productive, how efficient he was with the Seahawks.
Of course, the Broncos tenure not so fun.
I mean, just last year, Pat, he threw for 400 yards against the Dallas Cowboys.
Wow.
so this does take a quarterback option off the board, obviously, for quarterback desperate teams for 2026.
That is unless, of course, they call and he's like, "All right, I'm off the desk.
I will play again."
Could be.
That is another question.
Will he actually stay retired?
We don't know with Russell Wilson.
What we do know is maybe a fascinating Hall of Fame debate incoming, but he probably won't make the Hall of Fame.
Just like his coach, Pete Carroll, he might be someone where it'll be difficult to explain to future generations.
You don't understand.
This guy was really, really good.
Russell Wilson, fascinating career.
Hopefully a fascinating broadcaster.
