Celebrating Growth: FCPS Concludes 2025 Summer Internship Program
After six weeks of professional learning, collaboration, and real-world experience, the 2025 cohort of FCPS summer interns concluded their journey with a celebration at Gatehouse Administration Center. The 20 interns — FCPS high school students as well as recent graduates — spent the summer embedded in central office departments across the school division, from Human Resources, Facilities Management and Safety and Security, to Professional Learning, Special Services, and more.
Throughout the internship, participants gained hands-on experience in public education administration, contributed meaningfully to division projects, and explored future careers in public service and education.
“Interns bring fresh energy and new perspectives to our work,” said William Solomon, chief human resources officer. “We designed this experience not just to help them grow, but to show them that FCPS can be a place where they make a real impact. They had a chance to listen, learn, and ask lots of questions over the last six weeks, and have transformed into elite professionals.”
For many interns, the experience was eye-opening — offering a glimpse into the scale, complexity, and heart of one of the nation’s largest school systems. The final showcase highlighted each intern’s work and reflections, underscoring the mutual benefit of the program.
Teresa Seraphin, who worked in the Department of Human Resources, said she was surprised by the sheer number of people it takes to run the division, and her favorite part of the internship was “experiencing the excitement of staff members about public education and the work that they do.”
“Our interns remind us of why we do this work — to serve our students,” said Superintendent Dr. Michelle Reid. “They are curious, capable, and committed. They represent the future of our schools, our communities, and our workforce. We are so proud of them and grateful they had the opportunity to contribute to mission-driven work that showcased the power and promise of public education.”
The internship program supports the 2023-30 Strategic Plan’s Goal 5: Leading for Tomorrow’s Innovation , which aims to equip every student with the skills to thrive in life after high school.
With the program wrapped, the interns – who documented their summer experiences on Instagram — are heading back to school with new skills, professional mentors, and a deeper understanding of how public education shapes lives.
The FCPS internship program was supported by Educate Fairfax and Apple Federal Credit Union.
