James Patterson, Kevin Vo & Duy Nhan Nguyen, Sideburn Support Center

"I would like to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude Mr. Patterson, Mr Vo, and Mr, Nguyen who have worked tirelessly on the heating and air conditioning system in our classroom. As you know, this is a special space designed for students with autism, where our students are not only highly active but also incredibly curious. Over the course of their visits, these gentlemen didn’t just come in and fix the system—they went above and beyond. They checked on our HVAC unit daily, making sure it was comfortable for both learning and teaching. But what truly stood out was their willingness to share their work with our students. Each day, as our students observed the work they were doing, these kind and patient individuals took the time to explain the different parts of the air conditioner, answering questions and fostering curiosity. It’s rare to see such compassion and dedication, especially in a setting where understanding the needs of our students is so important. By welcoming our students' questions and offering their knowledge with such care, they not only improved our learning environment but also demonstrated the invaluable role of the community in educating our students. Their actions reminded us that it truly does take a village to provide the best possible education. Thank you for being such an essential part of our students' learning experience."

Katy Carlson, Forestville ES

"My daughter was in Ms. Katy Carlson’s 3rd grade class this 2024-2025 school year at Forestville Elementary School. Our family wanted to share some qualities that made the year a very successful one from our perspective. Ms. Carlson began the year as she meant to go on. She created a packet of important information that shared her teaching approach and also her plans for the year. The packet set the tone that Ms. Carlson would continue throughout the year. She had high expectations for herself as well as her students to achieve the curriculum objectives of 3rd grade and have a great time doing it. The packet was very detailed, with information not only about the beginning of the school year with class schedules, but also about the year ahead and how she planned to stay ahead of the curve on scheduling, parent engagement and student success. Throughout the year, Ms. Carlson demonstrated excellence in all three areas and communicated her goals to her parents in a clear, concise and optimistic way. Her communication platforms included weekly emails, use of the Talking Points app and in person parent meetings. In previous years, most teachers only offered one in person conference, but Ms. Carlson went above and beyond and offered parents two opportunities to discuss student progress. Each conference included a detailed look at student progress on assessments and an opportunity to ask questions. Two particular events stand out in my mind that demonstrate Ms. Carlson’s dedication to her students. During our second conference, Ms. Carlson pointed us to a Student Emotional Learning survey in which our daughter had shown some decline in the area of how comfortable she felt at school. She offered to connect us with the counseling staff and followed up immediately with more information. Ms. Carlson took the time to address it with us and discuss the reasons why as well as possible avenues for acquiring more information and resources. The second event was Ms. Carlson’s approach to testing. Third grade is the first year students in VA take the SOLs. Ms. Carlson embraced best practices in teaching not to the test, but seeing tests as a way to show progress and growth as well as a skill to be developed in and of itself. She prepared the students well by giving them advanced notice about the testing schedule. She also got them excited and interested in testing by asking parents to write letters to our students focused on a growth mindset. Overall, Ms. Carlson provided students a loving environment to grow their skills and encouraged a positive, growth mindset until the very end of the school year. With 30 students, somehow she made every one of them feel special. I personally appreciated her communication skills, attention to assessment as a form of accountability and her energetic, determined attitude towards her students and the 3rd grade curriculum."

Julienne Ricker, Longfellow MS

"School Counselor Ms. Julienne Ricker has been very helpful through a challenging 7th-grade year. My child has had some medical issues that have complicated getting through this year, but Ms. Ricker has been helpful and supportive through it all. She made my child feel listened to and cared for in a very large and busy school environment. She helped us navigate successfully through a tough situation, which was most likely very time-consuming, but found a solution that helped my child get through the year, which has been mentally and physically exhausting for her. Without Ms. Ricker's support, I do not think that we would have made it through the year. Without her help, it could have turned out to be a path of school refusal. She has made an impact on a child's life that will hopefully last a lifetime."

Kristin Bosley, Riverside ES (Pictured Above)
" Kristin Bosley has gone above and beyond in supporting her fellow teachers this year. She is team lead to the large team at Riverside Elementary. She has served as the official mentor to two new teachers and an unofficial mentor to additional new teachers after they came to observe her exceptional classroom practices. Kristin supported additional new teachers through her participation in professional development around the PreK program of studies, sharing her materials and ideas for adapting and modifying instruction to meet diverse student needs. In a time where there are many new teachers, many of whom are teacher trainees, support from experienced teachers like Kristin has been essential to their success. Caring teachers like Kristin who support novice colleagues not only impacts new teacher retention, it impacts the level and quality of support they are able to provide their students."

Lauren Chunn, Orange Hunt ES

"To say that Mrs. Chunn goes “above and beyond” barely captures the depth of care and dedication she brings to her work. Since my child started working with Mrs. Chunn at the age of five, she has been a constant source of encouragement and compassion. Supporting students with differing abilities requires patience, skill, open-mindedness, adaptability in instructive styles, empathy, and a love for the work. Mrs. Chunn meets my child where they are, while trying to bring innovative ideas to make learning engaging, attainable, and fun. Mrs. Chunn sees my child’s strengths, uniqueness, and kindness, even (and especially) during their most challenging times. Her support for my child and encouragement of their abilities has been transformative since the beginning of my child’s academic journey. As parents of children with differing needs, we recognize the path to growth and change is not linear (and will sometimes be very, very rocky); having an educator like Mrs. Chunn on that path with us makes all the difference. Knowing there is someone who will not give up on your child, despite their challenges, is irreplaceable. Her presence is supportive to my child, and it also helps mitigate some inherent anxiety that comes with being the parent of a child who requires special education services. I cannot sufficiently express the impact she has had on my child through these very challenging, though rewarding, years. Though I know Mrs. Chunn through emails and IEP meetings, it is through my child where I understand who she is as an educator. Mrs. Chunn exemplifies what it means to care- not just as an educator, but as a kind and compassionate person who truly sees and believes in my child."

Ashley Mies, Johnson MS

"Ms. Ashley Mies joined Katherine Johnson Middle School (KJMS) as a WAT teacher, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a strong passion for teaching from her previous years in education. Ashley brings enthusiasm to school every day. She not only teaches her students but also guides her colleagues to provide the best support for our students in the special education department. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Ashley takes on significant roles outside the classroom. She consistently jumps in to support anyone who needs her, always willing to help wherever she is needed. She supports new teachers in the special education department in every way she can. Through her experience in sports, Ashley dedicates many hours organizing students and staff for the Special School-Based Unified Sports program, and organizes opportunities for our students to engage with the community-based center, bringing joy and meaningful experiences to both students and staff. Additionally, we want to thank Ms. Ashley and her students for serving fresh-brewed beverages and delivering them to classrooms in the morning. Her Eagles program teaches students how to run a business and has brought joy to us as teachers. The Eagles program has been very successful. We are very fortunate to have Ms. Ashley as a valued member of our special education team at KJMS."

Heather Simpson, Saratoga ES

"I would like to recognize Ms. Simpson, my son’s 4th grade teacher, for going above and beyond in her dedication to her students. Ms. Simpson consistently creates a positive classroom environment where students feel safe, challenged, and inspired. It’s clear that she genuinely cares about each child’s growth, both academically and personally. That kind of dedication doesn’t go unnoticed. She has a special way of bringing out the best in her students. My son comes home excited about what he’s learning, and more importantly, he feels encouraged and supported to be the best version of himself. Her belief in him has boosted his confidence tremendously. We are so grateful to have had her as his teacher. She exemplifies everything FCPS CARES stands for! Thank you, Ms. Simpson, for your heart, your effort, and your incredible dedication to our son."

George Nosek, Nancy Sprague Technology Center
"I would like to nominate George for going above and beyond for us this week! Over at Sprague, we had to do some staff trainings in one of our larger rooms, and the trainings were unfortunately scheduled on two of the hottest days of the year so far! It was very clear to us that the room was going to be unbearably hot, and we would possibly need to reschedule our trainings for another week later in the summer. Without us even asking him to, George was able to find and setup two AC units for the room, which allowed for the room to remain cold, even with a room FULL of staff members! There would have been absolutely NO WAY for us to have had trainings this week without him stepping in, and we are ETERNALLY grateful for him taking the initiative to help us out! Even beyond helping us with the room, George has ALWAYS listened to our needs, and continues to do everything in his power to help us succeed over at the Sprague center! THANK YOU SO MUCH, GEORGE!"
-Jimmy Bochert, Nancy Sprague Technology Center
Amie Jenkins, Nancy Sprague Technology Center
"Amie is a wonderful person to work with. She always has a positive attitude and willingness to support anyone. She is quick to jump on calls or answer any questions to the best of her ability. She works well collaborating with others and making individuals comfortable when working with her or approaching her with questions."
- Alicia Ogrodny, Nancy Sprague Technology Center
Raymond Hansen & Stalin Cordoba Herrera, Merrifield Support Center
"An Air Conditioner Compressor on the third floor of Gatehouse needed to be replaced recently when it failed. The temperature on the third floor of GAC within portions of the Office of Safety and Security as well as Design and Construction reached over 80 degrees for periods of time, especially on Monday, July 23, 2025 - which was the day temperatures peaked in the 80's in the section of OSS nearest to my workspace. Throughout this week, Ray Hansen - HVAC-II (Merrifield Support Center) has been troubleshooting the A/C system(s); he has been working feverishly with other staff members from Gatehouse and Merrifield to correct the HVAC issues. Today, as I write this FCPS Cares nomination, Ray Hansen and "Lin" Cordoba are still at Gatehouse working on the final "fixes" to the A/C - which is repairing / replacing the compressor. Ray and his teammate are determined to put the final repairs in place before going to an event for the employees of Merrifield Support Center. I have seen Ray in the hallways of the third floor of Gatehouse with dirt and grim all over his clothes (uniform), arms and face. He and others have been working in extreme temperatures to ensure the comfort of Gatehouse Employees is fully restored. This week from Monday through Thursday, there was a declared Extreme Heat Warning put in place with the Heat Index at approximately 105 - 110 degrees. Ray and other members from both Gatehouse Facility-Support Staff (initially) and Merrifield Support Personnel have been diligently working on the HVAC System to return it to normal operating temperatures. In lieu of attending a special event today for Merrifield Staff, Ray and "Lin" elected to finish the job that was started on Monday. Ray and Lin are an example of the dedication employees have towards FCPS; they "CARE." Our Facilities Support Staff; Grounds; and so many others that don't work - front end facing jobs - contribute to the GREAT success of this School Division. Ray is an example of an unsung hero. He (and others) work behind the scenes to provide a comfortable workspace, educational space, operational space, etc. Most of the time, because of their work assignments are "behind" the scenes; they go unnoticed and at times, under-appreciated. I very much appreciate the efforts put forth by Ray Hansen - HVAC-II all week and Lin Cordoba this morning as they bring this repair / project to a close. All my encounters with Ray this week have been positive; he is extremely professional; and he has an impeccable work ethic from my observations. To Ray and all the Facilities Maintenance and Support Staff - "Thank you for caring" and maintaining our Workspaces, Educational Facilities, and our overall Operations. It is a TEAM effort and Facilities Maintenance is a vital part! Thank you and others do care and see you!"

Kristopher Bunch, Woodson IT
" Kristopher Bunch is an amazing individual and a true asset to Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Transportation. I’ve only had the privilege of meeting Kris three times, but each encounter left a lasting impression. The first time I met Kris, he said, “If you need any assistance with your phone, just let me know.” Of course, I did need assistance with my phone, so I thought it was my lucky day. Unfortunately, Kris wasn’t able to help at that moment because a new phone needed to be ordered by someone from the Transportation department. However, Kris assured me, “If you get a phone, I’ll come right down, set it up, and make sure it’s working properly.” I replied, “Okay—I’ll hold you to it.” Approximately two weeks later, a work order was placed, and true to his word, Kris showed up with a smile on his face, ready to assist. He said, “I knew it was you when I saw the work order. I like your persistence in getting what you need to succeed in your job.” About two and a half weeks later, our Transportation Planning Manager was experiencing phone issues. Kris came in immediately to investigate why the phone wasn’t receiving calls. He used his own phone to test the line and spent nearly an hour troubleshooting the issue. Ultimately, he determined the phone needed to be replaced. The entire time, Kris remained positive, never complained, and never gave up. I’m writing this FCPS Cares recognition because it’s rare to find someone who is not only happy to assist but also willing to go above and beyond. Kris treated that manager with the same respect and care he showed me—and that speaks volumes. Someone else needs to know that Kris is a true gem. Too often, we focus on the squeaky wheel. Hopefully today, Kris receives the attention and appreciation he deserves. Thank you, Kris, for a job well done and for always staying positive and dedicated. Note: Kris called me on June 11, 2025, after another work order was submitted for Unified Communications. He wasn’t sure what was needed, so he asked me to send an email with clarification. By the next day, Kris had forwarded my concern to the appropriate person and called to confirm that the issue was resolved. Kris’ title is Field Information Systems Senior Technician—but that doesn’t fully capture the quality of work he delivers. Thanks again, Kris!"

Michele Anwyll, Fairview Park
"Acknowledging Michele Anwyll, ERFC Retirement Technical Specialist II, for her professional support. This Cares message seems to be the least that I can do to express my sincere gratitude for the professionalism, continuous clarification, and perseverance Michele has shown in assisting me as I attempted to manage the retirement process of FCPS. Her direction has been both reassuring and invaluable throughout this process. I truly appreciate the expertise and responsiveness she offered me. Working with her has made a significant difference in helping me understand my options and make informed decisions about my financial future. The time she took to explain the details and ensure everything was handled smoothly and efficiently was a great relief to the stress I was experiencing. Kennidi Knoblock, Cooper MS
"Kennidi worked with me as a co-facilitator for Mentoring Novice Educators. Due to an unexpected medical necessity, Kennidi had to lead the afternoon portion of the training on her own. This was an unexpected shift in plans and she handled it with professionalism, flexibility, and grace. Kennidi demonstrated so many positive qualities in the span of that training, she should be proud of the positive feedback she received. I hope she knows my deep-rooted gratitude."

Wala Osman, West Springfield HS
"Wala Osman is an extraordinary special education teacher. She is so kind and generous to the students on her caseload as well as to her co-workers. She makes sure all of her students receive the support and accommodations they need and she does so with a kindness that is difficult to describe. She works one-on-one with students on her caseload to make sure they meet all of their requirements. Students seek her out for emotional support when they are having a difficult day. Wala helps colleagues as well. She will readily jump in and complete an IEP for a co-worker, help other special education teachers with writing goals or completing needed paperwork. Wala gives so much of herself to our school, even working at sporting events and dances. Sometimes I wonder how she finds the time to do all the helpful, kind, and needed tasks that she completes. She is one of the kindest people I know and I feel fortunate to work with her at West Springfield High School. I don't know what we would do without her here and I hope we don't find out any time soon!"
- Dianne Stansbery, West Springfield HS
David Blair, West Springfield HS
"This was David Blair's first year as an FCPS social worker. He was assigned to West Springfield High School which is a VERY busy school. Dave worked so hard every day, staying late into the evening to keep up with the demands of the job and learn all the tasks that a new school social worker must master. Being his co-worker, I would see the light on in his office each morning and many days after school when most other staff had gone home. Dave worked to create systems to keep all his tasks organized (homebound referrals, sociocultural assessments, meetings and counseling for students). He definitely has a knack for using google sheets. Dave readily shared these skills with others in the building and worked hard to stay on top of the endless number of meetings to which he was invited. Dave did this all with a positive attitude and with kindness. At the end of the year, the counseling staff recognized him as a person with a Big Midwestern Heart (he is originally from Michigan). As his co-worker, I appreciated all his help this year and I know many others in the building feel the same. He is off to a great start in FCPS."
- Dianne Stansbery, West Springfield HS
Nicholas Montgomery & Carlo Bertelli, Sideburn Support Center
" Burke School would like to recognize Carlo Bertelli, Construction Projects Manager, and Nicholas Montgomery, Carpenter II, with an FCPS Cares submission. Both Mr. Bertelli and Mr. Montgomery worked tirelessly this year to support us with a facilities emergency involving a wing of our building that suffered from 30+ roof leaks. These were not small trickles that stain ceiling tiles, but rather significant water flows that filled buckets each day. This issue required that we reassign students to new classroom spaces—seriously disrupting the daily experience of our students, all of whom receive special education services. Mr. Bertelli and Mr. Montgomery visited us almost daily, trying to find short-term fixes. At the same time, Mr. Bertelli advocated for us to be fast-tracked for a major roof repair. Ultimately, we were able to secure the installation of an entire new roof over this impacted wing of our building. Mr. Bertelli was able to ensure that the construction occurred during Spring Break, so that our students' learning would not be disrupted by the sounds and smells of the construction. Even after the installation, both gentlemen returned to check on the quality of the work and followed up on any necessary finishing touches. Their work allowed us to provide students with a calm, predictable, and healthy learning environment."
- Thomas M Sweet, Burke School
Deborah March, Willow Oaks Admin Center
"Deborah is such a fantastic colleague to everyone around her. When I was leading a professional development for school based middle and high school Advisory leads, she attended to support staff with her own expertise and best practices on incorporating culture and holidays into Advisory content. Her focus on student voice was exactly the kind of personalized learning staff were eager to learn more about! Teachers and admin who attended were grateful and had many, many questions for Deborah! Thank you for your continuing support of Advisory in Learning Seminar!"
- Mary Lewis, Willow Oaks Admin Center

Angela Couse, Willow Oaks Admin Center
"Your collaboration and enthusiasm for your content, and its connection to mine, led to some great activities, resources, and professional development this spring with leaders of middle and high school Advisory. It has been so great brainstorming ways to support students in accessing engaging enrichment activities during the school day. Thank you, Angela, for your creativity, collaboration, and love of the work!"

- Mary Lewis, Willow Oaks Admin Center
Erika Thompson, Willow Oaks Admin Center
"Erika Thompson has done a FANTASTIC Job of supporting the Get 2 Green Lead Team and staff at Braddock Elementary School! As the Get 2 Green Team Leads, we wanted to THANK Erika and recognize her for making our 2024-2025 school year Memorable and Successful with "Going Green!" We are so glad Erika matched our excitement for ensuring our Get 2 Green plan was fully embraced by our staff, community and school partners. Erika was ALWAYS available to support and advise us on the best methods and strategies for fully maintaining our "Plan of Action" for Recycling, Saving Food, and "Taking GOOD Care" of our school environment. Even though Erika also supported schools in the Annadale, Madison, Lewis, TJHSST, and Woodson pyramids, Erika ALWAYS answered and supported our requests for assistance. Working in a Title 1 School with close to eighty seven percent of our student population representing twenty five countries and thirty two languages is not easy. Our Get 2 Green Team wanted to include EVERYONE in our plan to GO GREEN. We knew that the students were our BEST Ambassadors for maintaining our school plan as well as carrying over our practices into the community and home. Erika was always eager to support and attended many of our events and activities. Ericka was our Cheerleader as well as our Encourager and sent us email messages and notes asking "How can I Help?" Erika encouraged us to participate as Presenters in the G2G Showcase to share our plan for Braddock Elementary. Erika took time out of her busy schedule to send our school principal and G2G school Administrator an email highlighting our accomplishments as Team Leads for this school year! Erika also made sure we were connected with the G2G Leads in our Annandale Pyramid to encourage us to support one another and develop a "Network". Erika was ALWAYS ready to add an "Extra pair of hands" or reach out to her team to help us meet our goals and objectives for the year! Even though we would LOVE to work FULL TIME on Get 2 Green initiatives, it could be very tough for a Fourth Grade Spanish Immersion/Advanced Mathematics Teacher and the Before, Afterschool, and Summer STEAM/Community Outreach Coordinator to fulfil all of the requirements of the Get 2 Green Leaders without someone as dedicated, supportive and compassionate about "Green Schools" as Erika! Erika kept us CHARGED to Make A Difference in our school community and we want to let her know just how much we appreciate the work we did this year and celebrate our accomplishments of having a strong student Green Ambassador program, collecting over 100 used pairs of glasses to support acquiring free eye glasses for students, providing food for our "high needs" families to take home, during the school year, and completing an outdoor environmental project of over fifty trees planted on our school property that will enrich our community for years to come! Erika made sure we CELEBRATED our successes! Erika's support, partnership, and leadership is GREATLY Appreciated and we are EXCITED and READY to continue our plan in 2025-2026!"

Kelly Gardner, Hayfield Secondary
"We are writing to give a shout out to Kelly Gardner, Hayfield Secondary School assistant principal, who went above and beyond in his support of the art department this year. His commitment was evident not only in his consistent encouragement and engagement in the art program while working with the art team, but also in his personal dedication to learning more about the art classes. By enrolling in art academy courses, he not only expanded his own artistic skills but also deepened his understanding of what the students experience in art classes by grappling with the creative process himself! Hayfield Secondary is so fortunate to have an administrator that exemplifies and models a growth mindset! We are grateful for his leadership and unwavering support. Thank you, Kelly, for all you do!"

Phuong Nguyen & Melissa Nicolette, Greenbriar East ES
"Besides being amazing teachers in the classroom, Phuong Nguyen and Melissa Nicolette are incredible humans outside of the classroom as well! For the last two years, Mrs. Nguyen and Mrs. Nicolette have attended our daughter's Crohn's and Colitis Take Steps Walk at Yard's Park in Washington, D.C. They brought their families to walk beside our girl, show support and bring attention to cause that impacts our daughter and family daily. These outstanding educators continually model empathy, compassion and community inside and outside the building. Greenbriar East and Fairfax County are lucky to call them theirs!"

Ryan Graybill, Newington Forest ES
"Mr. Graybill made this school year truly incredible for my third grader. At the beginning of the year, my child was shy and anxious about starting third grade, but Mr. Graybill welcomed him with open arms. It’s clear that he genuinely cares about each and every one of his students. By the end of the year, my child was heartbroken that school was ending—he didn’t want to leave Mr. Graybill’s classroom. That says everything. Mr. Graybill creates a classroom environment that feels like home. The students adore him because he is warm, caring, empathetic, and truly invested in their learning. He goes above and beyond as an educator, and I can personally attest to the impact he’s made—just from the tears my child shed on the last day of school. Thank you, Mr. Graybill, for being the kind of teacher every child deserves."

Michelle Campbell, Lorton Center
"Mrs. Campbell of Bus 3 for Kings Park has been absolutely incredible this year! I can’t imagine driving a giant bus in the traffic of Northern Virginia to begin with, but having around 60 little kids behind you during that? Impossible. Yet, Mrs. Campbell was there everyday looking stylish with a big grin to greet and bid farewell to each and every one of them. She made it look easy! Mrs. Campbell knew every student, who couldn’t sit near who, who probably fell asleep, and all the chaos that occurred. She handled it with grace and kept everyone in line. As a parent, I knew that my kids were safe, would be at their stop on time, and were being watched. For my boys, they have loved having Mrs. Campbell every day. Being a bus driver is often a thankless job and I want Mrs. Campbell to know that we all appreciate her and hope that she will be back next year!"

Annamaria Ward & Natalie Baumstark, Nancy Sprague Technology Center
"Annamaria Ward and Natalie Baumstark have been collaborating with Instructional Services over the last several months to design a division-wide, new graphic and one-pager for our newly revised Learning Model. Throughout this process, they have been incredibly responsive, attentive to detail, nimble, and patient as we underwent several revisions to the Learning Model with input from a variety of roles within FCPS. Throughout the process, they have maintained a positive and supportive outlook and have significantly improved the way the Learning Model will be visually represented and shared across all of FCPS. This is a highly visible graphic and resource that will be utilized by instructional staff across all schools and central offices, and they have made the resource incredibly user-friendly, accessible, and visually engaging. Kudos to Annamaria and Natalie!"

Kristina Mickey, Oak View ES
"Unfortunately, all too often, people are more motivated to write messages regarding a grievance or vexation. Recognition is far less common, but arguably more so warranted in the teaching profession. I wanted to write about his good fortune in landing in Mrs. Mickey’s fourth grade class. My son heard all about “Mrs. Mickey” when she taught AAP in 3rd grade. Some of his friends were in her class, and I also heard from their parents how much they loved her. So when we randomly got assigned to her class in FOURTH GRADE, my son was over the moon with joy. I was also excited to experience what she was like, from a parent perspective. Surely, I did not expect her to live up to the “hype.” Boy was I wrong. I immediately noticed a difference in teacher/parent communication, as well as my son's interest in school. She made learning FUN, and how else can you get a pre-teen boy curious about school? Simultaneously, he quickly learned respect and responsibility in her classroom. I won’t list the creative ways she does this, as I’m sure you’re already aware. But her unique approach to teaching set my son on a completely different trajectory in school. She acknowledged his ability and did not settle for him doing “okay” in school. He could’ve easily cruised through 4th grade with minimal effort. But Mrs. Mickey did not allow it. She pushed him to work hard, to reach his full potential. He’s grown more in this year alone, than the previous three. He comes home to fit in studying for tests between sports and at the breakfast table. He’s prioritized math homework and ocean presentations over TV. He has a new appreciation for working hard because he’s experienced the benefit in doing so. And he does not settle for less, because that is not Mrs. Mickey’s expectation. In addition to that, Mrs. Mickey was paramount in my submitting an AAP Level IV application for him. I’ve done so in the past without success and likely would not have tried again this year. She recognized his talents in writing and engagement in lessons, how hard he works, and how friendly he is with everyone. She pointed out to me his strengths and talents. I thought, “well if Mrs. Mickey thinks he’s deserving, then I’m definitely making the effort again.” He qualified for AAP Level IV and I couldn’t be more proud of him. I want to point out, that even if his application was not accepted, I’d still have the motivation to write to you. Either way, my son has grown more in his effort and academics than I thought possible in one year. That is all thanks to Mrs. Mickey. Yes, he worked hard and put in the effort, but without motivation to do so, and the higher expectations of her classroom, he’d never follow through. The motivation came from Mrs. Mickey. While I don’t FULLY understand how she does this, or how she makes every student/family feel like the most important in the classroom, I do know that it’s precisely what makes her a magical, life-changing teacher. We are very proud of him. We are so very grateful to Mrs. Mickey. He’s ready for the challenges of 5th grade because she expects more from her class- not only academically, but as little humans learning who they are. I wish she could follow us to 5th grade, but know he has the tools he needs to succeed exiting her class. She's the type of teacher you never forget and we're so glad he got this experience early in his school career."

Logan Williams, Willow Springs ES
"Ms. Williams is the embodiment of dedication, creativity, and compassion. She consistently goes above and beyond the expectations of a teacher, challenging her students in ways that are both engaging and enriching. Her classroom is a place where academic growth feels exciting and attainable, thanks to the innovative projects and lessons she designs—always pushing beyond the standard curriculum to spark curiosity and inspire learning. At the heart of her teaching is something her students express best: “Ms. Williams is a teacher who cares about everyone.” I can’t think of a more meaningful tribute. In a school environment, there is nothing more powerful than a student feeling seen, heard, and supported. Ms. Williams provides that every single day. Her extraordinary teaching and genuine kindness are shining examples of what makes FCPS such a remarkable school district. Thank you, Ms. Williams, for everything you do."

Miriam McGeehan & Patrick Goodwin, Lorton Center
"My 5 year old grandson came to live with me near the end of the school year. He’s autistic and very different to handle but the only non stressful time for me was his bus ride home from White Oaks Elementary each afternoon. Miriam and Pat were magic. They were careful but flexible. Patient but insistent. He came off the bus each day without a fight. Without screaming or refusing. The attendant was always able to get him to the stairs happily. The driver was always so supportive and sweet and kind. These two should be recognized. I’m not sure how they were so successful with my grandson, Day after day. But they were. With smiles on their faces. They are my heroes."

"My daughter was lucky to have Ms. Mariana Van Wasesberghe as her Spanish 1 teacher this year. My daughter really appreciates that Ms. Van Wasesberghe makes the class fun while still teaching them a ton of Spanish. Ms. Van Waesberghe has high expectations for her students, but she is funny and relatable at the same time. This has made learning Spanish enjoyable for my daughter. In addition, Ms. Van Wasesberghe goes above and beyond hosting fun activities likes fiestas to teach the students about the Spanish culture and to give them something to look forward to."

Serena Perricone, Kings Park ES
"I cannot let the school year end without recognizing Serena Perricone as a shining example of FCPS CARES. Serena serves as a special education Instructional Assistant who goes above and beyond every day to support our most vulnerable learners. She is thoughtful and intentional about building trusting relationships with her students and patiently encourages their growth and persistence. She accepts students unconditionally, meets them where they are, and offers what they need to feel safe and successful. Serena easily anticipates what students need and is quick to support them before frustration sets in. Recently, she helped create a lanyard of nonverbal signals to help a student communicate his feelings and needs. She carries a bagful of calming tools that help her students with self- regulation. She finds creative motivators for her students like stick bots, Pokémon cards, and puzzles and strives to help them become successful communicators, collaborators, and resilient, goal directed learners. Her second-grade inclusion classroom just read a book called I am Stuck about a turtle who is stuck upside down. A thoughtful possum teaches the turtle some mindful practices and helps the turtle to flip over. One student exclaimed, “Ms. Perricone is my possum!” Serena helps her students move forward every day. She radiates calm and caring and is an unsung hero; we are so fortunate to have her at Kings Park ES!"

Jenn Saunders, Herndon Learning Center
"We wanted to give a HUGE shoutout to Jenn Saunders on behalf of our ESOL Nontraditional team. Jenn has compiled and created incredible science resources. She has taken an active role in supporting our team and our ML students. She is thoughtful about who will be using the materials and how students will meet the science standards for the very different science curriculums. She has adjusted assignments in a very thoughtful and engaging way for the diverse populations. The students still talk the hands-on labs they did with Jenn and what they learned. The lessons incorporate different language proficiency levels and provide us entry into doing language lessons with science. She has completely supported the students at the micro level and the teachers at the macro level. She does all the curriculum resource along with a huge number of in person lessons with students. She helps students explore the world around them in a thoughtful way, trying always to engage them in wonder."

"Dear Ms. Snyder, Ms. Malika, and Ms. Alcantara – The Amazing Kindergarten Team, Our family feels truly blessed to have had such a wonderful year at Mosaic Elementary Kindergarten. We are so thankful to have had Ms. Snyder as our child’s teacher, along with the incredible support of Ms. Malika and Ms. Alcantara. As this school year comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks for the incredible work you do each and every day. From the warm welcomes in the morning to your patient guidance and joyful learning experiences, you’ve created a classroom that is not only educational, but also filled with love, laughter, and a sense of safety. Your dedication and care have made a difference in every one of her school days. It’s clear that being in your class has helped her—and her classmates—grow in confidence, curiosity, and kindness. Her reading skills and penmanship have improved so much, and she now loves reading books and looks forward to going to the school library each week. I’m incredibly grateful for all the ways you’ve nurtured and supported her development. We will always be grateful for everything you've done to make her first year of school such a joyful and meaningful experience."

Debra Schuman, Mount Eagle ES
" It is with great pleasure that I nominate Debbie Schuman as Best of the Nest. Although Debbie’s homebase is her office, it is rare to find a day when she is not supporting Mount Eagle in another area of the school. Walking students to their classroom in the modular, checking upstairs classrooms to confirm furniture requests, and reorganizing the workroom are just a few of the tasks Debbie might be found doing around the school any given day. If Mount Eagle was a movie set, Debbie would be the producer. She is working behind the scenes to ensure that everyday events and special occasions run smoothly. Not to mention that if there are treats in a workroom, Debbie will ask every person she sees if they have had a chance to partake yet. This is a prime example of Debbie’s sincere hope that everyone feels appreciated. It is evident that each day, Debbie brings a sense of humor to work, as well as a commitment to caring for our students. This balance of humor and caring is seen through her eagerness to participate in fun, like wearing animal print for Wild Wednesdays, or opening up her office to a student who might need a few minutes to reset. This magical balancing act is also seen in her ability to provide time and space even when there are 100 situations going on at once. Each season is Debbie’s busy season, yet she is always willing to sit down and talk through questions or situations without making someone feel rushed. It is an honor to highlight Debbie as Best of the Nest!"

William Solomon, Gatehouse Admin Center
"William Solomon, Chief of Human Resources, went over and above in assisting the Finance Department in placement of destaffed Finance employees whose positions were eliminated due to budget cuts. Almost all of our staff reductions were able to be placed within the Finance Department. FCPS Comptroller, Seema Ajrawat and Payroll Director, Melissa Russell came up with the plan and William made it happen! This illustrates how much he and his staff members care about FCPS employees and are doing their very best to lessen the impact of budget reductions. I personally appreciate the assistance, and I know the employees affected appreciate it as well! Kudos to William!"

Walking into our home last fall, you took on the challenge of teaching my complex learner. You dove headfirst into learning how to work with her communication device and were able to adapt lessons on the fly to meet her needs each and every day. You took the time to really understand how best to teach my daughter and initiated a strong collaboration with our base school team to maximize her learning this school year. Megan Ciccarello, Mackenzie Anderson, Allison Eisensmith & Georgina Aye, Fairfax HS
“It wasn't so long before, but now I can say, parents like me would positively recommend and praise the Special Ed leadership and program at Fairfax HS thanks to Megan Ciccarello, Mackenzie Anderson and Allison Eisensmith. It is as good as it all gets - they are involved, present, respond quickly and caring. Most of all, they are focused on SOLUTIONS. No excuses no sidestepping no parent-blaming or parent-shaming- just solving the problem if not preventing it altogether. That is all you need and want when you are a parent of a child with very special needs. They have been the blessing we really needed. Kudos to Dr. Aye for putting this team together. The parents so recognize and appreciate it. This is one of the biggest accomplishments of Dr. Aye to turn this all around. Huge positive impact.”

Diane M Mckee & Carolina M Roca Del Valle, Lorton Center Transportation
“Carolina Del Valle and Diane Mckee represent how critical transportation is to the daily education experience and support of a child with special needs, especially like mine who thrives on her bond with adults around her. Transportation is not just a bus system they are the first and last point of contact on a school day for our children and they support her needs and behaviors like the folks at school. This team assigned the best bus staff- Lisa and Michael- effectively supported and enabled my child to return to school after a crisis. We cannot express enough gratitude and appreciation.”

Tewolde Kuflom, Lorton Center Transportation
“I would like to recognize Mr. Teddy (CW-05 bus driver for Canterbury Woods ES) for going above and beyond his responsibilities, looking out for the students that ride his bus, and always being a good role model for the students. As a parent sending their kid off on a school bus for the first time, it's never easy on the nerves. Mr. Teddy is so caring, where he remembers the kids that ride his bus in the morning time and will ask about the kid(s) who are supposed to be on the afternoon bus but aren't. At drop-off, he takes note of whether the kid normally walks home on their own or normally has a parent waiting for them. One time, we were running late to pick up our daughter and Mr. Teddy asked my daughter not to get off the bus yet, as he didn't see my husband or I am waiting for her, for her safety. This is critical, especially for younger children. Another time, when a kid boarded the bus and had trouble finding a place to sit (the other kids wouldn't scoot over), he pulled the bus over to the side of the road to get up and remind the kids how special each of them were and how important it was to be kind to one another, and to share their seat with other students. I believe Mr. Teddy is retiring at the end of the school year and wanted to show our appreciation for having him as our child's bus driver. Thank you for all you do, Mr. Teddy!”

Marie Clay, Graham Road Community Center
“I would like to share my sincere depth of gratitude for Marie Clay’s instructional support and mentorship this year. As a Teacher of Students who are Blind and Visually Impaired, Marie provided me with critical guidance and modeling to ensure students with multiple disabilities, one of which includes a cortical vision impairment (CVI), were able to access and make progress across their curriculum, while learning in their home environments. I could not be more grateful to Marie for teaching me how to teach in new and innovative ways that maximize student learning and allow students to demonstrate what they know. The true appreciation I have for her can’t be expressed in words, but this is a start: Marie, THANK YOU; you are AMAZING!”

Jeri Clark, Willow Oaks Admin Center
“My son is a unique learner whose whole education world changed with Ms. Clark. He has always loved school but has not progressed on pace with his peers because he has refused to use more advanced assistive technologies that would allow him to access his curriculum, similar to his peers. Ms. Clark held my son to high standards, no matter what assistive technology he used, and it motivated him to begin to use his eye gaze computer so he could do more work for her. Before he used the eye gaze he would use switches and Ms. Clark was able to adapt her teaching to his switch technology, his processing time, and his lack of very basic skills that he had never attempted but only watched his peers do. She has been extremely respectful and patient with him while holding him to high standards. The progress he saw motivated him to switch to his eye gaze. Since switching to his eye gaze, he has made progress that I never imagined possible in such a short time. She also takes the time to learn his technology and ways that work for him. My son has never been able to access his work independently and he has now begun to. On weekends he will wake up and ask to do his homework. I have never seen him prouder and happier about his school and learning. Ms. Clark is also willing to collaborate with his other teachers and has wonderful communication with me. “

Allison Sheppard, Oak View ES
“We feel incredibly fortunate that both of our children have had the opportunity to be taught by Ms. Sheppard. She consistently demonstrates strong classroom leadership — no small feat with a group of energetic 3rd graders. But what truly sets her apart is her remarkable ability to meet each student exactly where they are, with patience, insight, and genuine care. When we began the process of pursuing a 504 plan for our son, we were amazed to discover that Ms. Sheppard had already been implementing many of the accommodations intuitively — long before any formal documentation was in place. In fact, her thoughtful strategies became the foundation of his 504 plan. Beyond her day-to-day teaching, Ms. Sheppard played a pivotal role in supporting our son's application for the plan. Her heartfelt and professional testimony about his needs, and her expert insight into the long-term impact of appropriate support — drawn from her years of experience — was instrumental. She didn’t just advocate for our son; she helped protect his relationship with learning itself. We are deeply grateful for Ms. Sheppard's commitment, compassion, and expertise. FCPS is lucky to have her, and we feel so fortunate that our children had her as a teacher.”

“This teacher has truly made a difference for my son, who has a speech difficulty with stuttering. My son has told me how patient and respectful his teacher is—he never rushes him or interrupts when he’s speaking. What I appreciate most is that the teacher offers feedback privately, so my son doesn’t feel singled out. Because of this, my son feels more confident, seen, and proud of his progress. I’m incredibly grateful for the care and thoughtfulness this teacher shows every day.”

“I have worked with Jeri Clark this year in my capacity as a teacher of the visually impaired supporting students in the homebound and homebased setting. Jeri is a warm, caring, and dedicated teacher who goes above and beyond each and every day. She takes time to thoroughly get to know her students and their families and forms strong relationships built on trust. Jeri has been instrumental this year in helping to create adapted supports and materials for students with the most significant special needs so they can actively participate in lessons. Jeri is always upbeat, smiling, and ready to learn about new topics and teaching strategies in low incidence special education. She has truly been a pleasure to work with this year and has fully embraced a co-teaching model in our approach to concurrent vision services.”

Christie Johnson, Virginia Hill Early Childhood
“Christie Johnson has been an incredible asset to the Early Childhood Program across FCPS for years. She has worked in her role as an Early Childhood Instructional Coach support new and veteran teachers for over a decade. Her kind, experienced, and collaborative approach really aids teachers and their children in creating effective learning environments. She challenges the staff she works with while meeting them where they are in their educational career. Christie’s encouragement and guidance have made a huge impact to why many teachers have remained in the field here in FCPS. We thank her for her dedication, leadership, and advocacy for Early Childhood Service in FCPS!

Gil Martinez, Lake Braddock Secondary
“This teacher has truly surprised me in the best ways. The first thing that stands out is his incredible patience with students—something even my son has noticed. My son has a speech difficulty involving stuttering, and he has shared how respectful and understanding this teacher is. He never rushes him or cuts him off when he’s speaking, which has made a huge difference in his confidence. What’s more, the teacher takes time after class—in a more private, low-pressure setting—to offer suggestions on how my son can improve his presentations. Rather than drawing attention to his speech in front of the whole class, he uplifts him quietly and constructively. My son feels truly seen in this classroom, and that means the world to me. He also feels proud of himself because this teacher consistently recognizes his efforts and growth. This is an amazing teacher who goes above and beyond. I’m so grateful for the positive impact he’s had on my child.

Robb Fiechtner, Lake Braddock Secondary
“Mr. Fiechtner is a compassionate and fun educator, who’s successfully helped students discover the joys of science. This subject can be problematic, where he makes it approachable and fun. Words don’t even begin to say thank you, but this educator cares. He stepped in to help many struggling students. He also supported my son during a challenging time, and kept his interest in this subject, and showed him a great example of what leadership is. Full respects and wanted to acknowledge this wonderful employee of FCPS.”

Jim Carter, West Springfield HS
"I want to express my sincere gratitude for our interim counselor, Jim Carter, for his incredible dedication and service as a high school counselor. His years of experience are evident, but what truly stands out is how he consistently serves with heart. It's clear that he genuinely cares for each student he encounters in the hallway, in his office, via email—in fact everywhere he meets students! He offers not just guidance and perspective, but a deep sense of empathy and unwavering support. His commitment to fostering a positive and nurturing environment makes a real difference in the daily lives of our students, helping them navigate challenges and discover their paths forward in many situations. His infectious smile and wonderful personality have brought a bright light to our Student Services department every day in his short time with us. My hope would be that every counselor in FCPS would get to study with him to learn his craft! His passion and compassion for serving our students is inspiring and joyful. We are lucky to have this time to learn from him. Thank you, Jim!"

Chris Powell, Carson MS
"Chis Powell is an assistant principal who spends most days hustling about the building putting out metaphorical fires and doing all he can to be sure the school is safe and secure for all 1,300+ students. When I popped into the main office to make some copies and saw Mr. Powell sit down with a student who was likely in the office due to a behavioral situation, I expected him to ask the student to write a statement or do some other official AP business. Instead, this former PE teacher sat down with the young man and said, "I talked to some math teachers, and I think know how we can set this problem up . . . " and then proceeded to teach this student math. My heart filled with pride that our busy, over-worked AP took the time to talk to one of his math teachers so he could help this student tackle a challenging subject. Yet, I shouldn't be surprised. This is who Chis Powell is - every day."

Karla Wiggins, West Potomac HS
" I wanted to shout out Ms. Karla Wiggins, long term substitute teacher! She has come in and done an excellent job for several teachers in our department over the last couple of years. She is professional and organized and works well with the students. She always makes it easier when we have a teacher out for an extended period of time!"
- Garrett Hubbard, West Potomac HS
Ethan Miller, Bonnie Brae ES
"I want to recognize and applaud Mr. Ethan Miller for all he does to introduce music into the lives of young artists. As an Arts Educator for 25 years, I was able to attend the 4th Grade Strings Concert and sit in AWE of this ensemble of focused, professional, proud musicians. My daughter began the year not knowing how to pronounce viola, and now plans to pursue strings and other instruments with full force. His commitment to the power and necessity of the arts was clear as this huge group of students played far above what I was anticipating! Beautiful and challenging music was scaffolded and taught with care- building their appreciation of music, power as a group, and self-confidence. Thank you, Mr. Miller! Bravo!"

Jennifer Howard, Alex Nietert & Tara James, Fort Belvoir Upper ES
"Ms. James has been a consistently updating and communicating with us throughout the year about our daughter. She sends emails out and nightly reminders through talking points to make sure parents are up to date on what is going on in the classroom. She was always available well beyond the school hours through talking points. She would write us on weekends to share our daughter’s accomplishments and joyful moments. She was also so quick to respond on some late nights when my daughter was having a hard time and needed some words of encouragement. Knowing my daughter felt safe and happy to go to school everyday because of the environment that was provided by Ms. James means so much to a mother of a military child. We could not have asked for a more caring and committed 3rd grade teacher and AAP team to also include Ms. Howard and Ms. Nietert. You have all made a tremendous impact on my daughter and given her so much confidence to now carry forward to her next school. "

James Carter, West Springfield HS
"We would like to take a moment to recognize and celebrate the incredible impact Mr. Carter has made in his short time with us. From the moment he joined our department, he has been an absolute game changer. Mr. Carter has a rare and genuine desire to connect with every single student—meeting them exactly where they are, supporting their needs, and celebrating their accomplishments, no matter how small. His presence has brought a renewed energy and warmth that is felt not only by our students, but by every member of our team. In just a few weeks, he has gone above and beyond, dedicating countless hours and unmatched heart to his work. His example reminds us of what it truly means to serve with compassion, commitment, and integrity. Simply observing Mr. Carter in action is an opportunity for growth and inspiration. We only wish we could keep him with us forever. His legacy of kindness, excellence, and wholehearted service will remain with us, and we are better for having had him as part of our team. With deep appreciation."

Nicole Tempesta, Nancy Sprague Technology Center
"Nicole Tempesta at the TMPC goes above and beyond to make things sparkle and shine. In the past, she has cheerfully created reading posters for me, never minds making adjustments and always works to make them look amazing! Recently, we submitted student artwork to be made into posters for our Get2Green school initiative. Unasked, Nicole took the time to adjust the lighting on each piece of student artwork to really make each student's artwork looks its best. I have been an FCPS educator for over 25 years, Nicole is an FCPS gem. She is always helpful in answering my many questions and goes above and beyond to help rather than just doing the minimum!"

"Ms. Brown is an amazingly supportive teacher. Whether during class time or outside of class time, she has always helped my daughter. Her class is always enjoyable, and she teaches her students very well. She’s always willing to help with recommendation letters, sponsoring club, meetings, and more. My daughter feels very comfortable around her and often talks to her in the mornings before class starts. My daughter is very lucky to have Ms. Brown as a teacher and mentor."

Jenica Bharucha, Langley HS
"Madame Bharucha is more than an excellent educator. She has shaped my daughter’s outlook and influenced her tremendously. The high standards she sets in her classroom are matched by the deep connections she makes with her students. We were so honored to have her attend my daughter‘s graduation party this past weekend. Madame has left an indelible mark on my daughter‘s life, both inside and outside of the classroom. As a family, we are proud to have had her as teacher… my son plans on continuing his French studies into high school because of all the stories his sister has shared."
-a Langley HS parent
David Kuhn, Langley HS
"Mr. Kuhn has forever changed the course of my daughter‘s life. Because of his leadership and strong teaching, my child is excited to pursue a career in politics or law. He is passionate, connected to his subject matter and continues to set high expectations for his students. Above these things, he attended her graduation party this past weekend and was our family’s guest of honor. We are beyond blessed to have an educator of his caliber at Langley High School. Forever grateful to him."

Katherine Pennington, Rose Hill ES
" She constantly works to ensure every single student feels seen and appreciate. Despite there being 700 students in the school she knows everyone’s name. She’s a safe space for so many students as they all know they can confide in her. Teachers and staff member also look to her for guidance and clean clothes. I admire how caring and compassionate she is always."

Mary Wittrock, Langley HS
" Madame Wittrock is such a compassionate and involved educator. Not only has she mentored my daughter through French class at Langley High School, she has also been the teacher sponsor for the service club Delivering Hope. She is exactly what our school system needs: empowering, loving and present. She has made such an impact on my daughter that she was invited and attended her graduation party this past weekend. I know her faith in my child will serve her for many years beyond the classroom. We are forever thankful to her!"

Cheryl Clark, Bonnie Brae ES
"When most parents imagine "the best possible elementary teacher" ... I feel like they have someone a lot like Cheryl Clark in mind. From the first time I met her last August, I was taken by her enthusiasm, energy, and how much she seems to enjoy her job and her students. Throughout the year that she has taught my son, my admiration has only increased. She balances the ability to be fun with holding firm boundaries like a pro (which I know my son is definitely in need of)! She is very in tune with the needs of each of her students and works with them to find ways that they can be the best possible learners every day. I love the way she sends each child home with a shout-out each week, highlighting their progress and positive moments. And not a week goes by without an update on what's happening in the classroom. She connects with kids' hobbies and interests, and has even been present at every school event our family has attended this year. The only downside of having Mrs. Clark for our first-grade teacher is knowing there is no Mrs. Clark in grades 2-12. But she couldn't have provided a better foundation for learning and loving to learn."

Dennis Michaels, Fort Hunt ES
" Dennis always steps up to help out - whether he’s asked to or not. He’ll cover an open classroom (schedule permitting) when we are short on subs (greatly appreciated!!) and he’ll help with discipline calls when others aren’t available. He’s quick to volunteer, is dependable, and he doesn’t hesitate to help when asked. He has a good relationship with so many of our students – knowing them all by name. His willingness to support others and contribute to the Fort Hunt community truly stands out, and he deserves to be recognized for it. Thanks Dennis!

Sara is a remarkable individual who excels in her role, particularly in managing our attendance meetings. Craig Primus, Chantilly HS
"Mr. Primus has been a wonderful teacher to my son. He consistently goes above and beyond to show care and support for his students. As parents, we often don't hear much about what's happening at school, since our son doesn't talk much about his friends or teachers. So it was a heartwarming surprise when, on a snowy day during winter break, we found a handwritten postcard in our mailbox from Mr. Primus. In the postcard, he told our son that he had recently watched him play basketball and praised his skills. At the same time, he gently reminded him not to let his studies slip. That small, thoughtful gesture meant so much to us—especially during a time when we've been struggling to support a teenager who sometimes lacks motivation. We were deeply moved by Mr. Primus's kindness and personal attention. It's often the little things that make the biggest difference. His support has brought light and hope to our family during a challenging time. He is always responsive to our concerns and offers thoughtful advice whenever we reach out. We are truly grateful to have him in our son's life."

Denise regularly goes above and beyond, volunteering to train not only new employees in her current role as a Security Officer but also new dispatchers in our security console, ensuring that every new team member feels prepared and welcomed. She also steps up without hesitation whenever she is needed, showing true leadership and dependability. Her commitment, reliability and warmth make a lasting difference, and I am truly grateful to have her on our team. Thank you, Denise, for all that you do. You set the standard for excellence.

Karen Wedekindt, Bull Run ES
" I have had the privilege of working with Karen Wedekindt since 2014, my first year at Bull Run Elementary. Although I do not work in the classroom with Karen this year, my classroom is adjacent to the POD where Karen meets with many of her ML students for small group. Her connection and enthusiasm with her students is amazing. She goes above and beyond with her students to ensure that they are learning the challenging vocabulary they need to know. Once, she was explaining the word "sprawl," and the next thing I witnessed was Karen sprawled out on the table very dramatically. I know that image stayed with the students, and I'm sure if asked today, they would recall the meaning of the word with a little chuckle. This past week her small group was performing a reader's theater play. The smiles and enthusiasm amongst the group was contagious. Karen works tirelessly to ensure that all her students are getting the best education possible in a way that is instilling of love of learning. Our school, students, and their families are very fortunate to have Karen Wedekindt as part of our school community!"
