Meet our Instructional Leaders
Instructional Coaches
Instructional coaches aim to directly influence student learning and teacher practices through providing job-embedded professional development.
They increase student learning and engagement by coaching teachers one-on-one in classrooms and building the capacity of entire teams to lead the work of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
As part of the program, Instructional Coaches receive regular and ongoing professional development, access to high-quality resources, mentorship in their first year, and a supportive community.


Reading Specialists and Resource Teachers
The Reading Specialist oversees the literacy program at their school. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Managing reading plans
- Communicating with families and teachers regarding student progress
- Organizing intervention for students
- Supporting literacy lessons with teachers
- Managing basal materials
- Guiding teachers in using best practices with the division curriculum



Elementary Math Resource Teachers (EMRT)
Fairfax County Public Schools focuses on an engaging and student centered mathematics instruction. We believe in active learners developing understanding through problem solving, rich learning opportunities, and reflecting on learning to develop students’ mathematical identity.

Advanced Academics Resource Teacher (AART)
The Advanced Academics Resource Teacher (AART)is a teacher leader who helps our school with many important jobs. This person coaches teachers on how to use special lessons that challenge students from kindergarten through sixth grade. The AART also works directly with students, showing other teachers the best ways to lead a class. A big part of their role is helping families understand our advanced learning programs and coordinating the screening process for students. They are also a link between our school and the main office, making sure we are all working together to support every student's learning and growth.

School Based Technology Specialist (SBTS)
Educational Technology provides professional learning, resources, and coaching to School-Based Technology Specialists (SBTS). SBTS provide teachers with the support they need integrate technology at each school. They fill many different roles, centered on helping staff make the best use of technology to enhance student learning.
SBTS:
- Create a professional learning plan for teachers that supports the integration of technology. Plan is aligned to the school’s instructional goals and supports student learning.
- Act as the liaison between the school staff and division-wide technology resources/offices.
- Support teachers in managing classroom digital resources and student accounts.
- Coaches teachers around the integration of instructional technology and digital citizenship.
- Collaborates with teachers to plan lessons. Model best practices in integrating technology into the K-12 curriculum.
- Support administrators and teachers in using digital resources to engage and communicate with
