Strategic Plan - Four Pillars
The Four Pillars are the building blocks for action and decision-making, and provide a durable frame for organizing and focusing our work.
Four Pillars
The Four Pillars identify what FCPS must do well to be able to reach our goals for all students. They serve as the foundation of our work and define the capabilities we need and must continuously improve to strengthen the effectiveness of instructional programs and Division-wide infrastructure. They are the building block for action and decision-making, and provide a durable frame for organizing and focusing our work.
Pillar A
Differentiated and Culturally Responsive Learning Environments
We design innovative learning experiences that meet the needs of each and every learner, and implement professional practices that engage, empower, include, and challenge the whole learner through varied opportunities.
Designing Schools for Every Learner | FCPS Ed Specs:Fairfax County Public Schools designs more than just buildings, they create learning environments that inspire, support, and adapt to every student’s needs. In this video, FCPS staff and educators share how Educational Specifications (Ed Specs) guide the design and construction of schools.
Pillar B
Vibrant Home, School, & Community Partnerships
We share responsibility to build trusting partnerships that sustain a safe, inclusive culture for learning and work, and we collaborate proactively with respect, honesty, and transparency.
Connecting FCPS Families and Schools Through Technology:Technology strengthens the connection between home, school, and community. This video highlights how the FCPS Department of Information Technology supports students, educators, and families through reliable systems, responsive support, and accessible digital tools—from on-site technology specialists to the FCPS mobile app, online registration, and multilingual family resources.
FCPS Family Academy: The Family Academy compiles classes, webinars, workshops, and programs offered by Fairfax County Public Schools to help you support your child's needs and learning at home. The Family Academy also includes information about resources available to help you ensure your student has what they need to succeed.
Pillar C
Diverse, Adaptive, & Supported Workforce
We recruit and retain staff who reflect the diversity of students and families; provide meaningful continuous learning, exceptional compensation, and balanced workload; and create a safe and culturally responsive environment that values staff voice.
Support for New Teachers at FCPS: To retain our workforce and address critical needs, Novice Teacher Instructional Coaches support new teachers and teacher trainees. These Novice Teacher Instructional Coaches provide just-in-time, in-classroom support focusing on essential areas like planning, instruction, classroom management, data analysis, and differentiation.
Grow Your Own (GYO) Program:FCPS continues to think and act innovatively to ensure the students in our classrooms are led by qualified teachers, especially special education teachers. One such innovation is the Grow Your Own, or GYO program, which helps current FCPS employees become licensed Special Education Teachers.
Leadership Development and Support Opportunities:The Office of Professional Learning provides various leadership development programs and supports for instructional and operational FCPS employees. Through these programs, participants develop and refine essential leadership skills, gain confidence in their abilities, and build strong professional relationships and networks.
Pillar D
Culture of Equity, Excellence, & Accountability
We nurture processes and structures that are grounded in intentional partnerships, shared responsibility for equitable resource allocation, and data-driven continuous improvement and innovation.
Fueling Success: FCPS Food & Nutrition Services Supports Students and Families:The Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) team is committed to ensuring that every student has access to healthy, culturally diverse meals—because when students are nourished, they are ready to learn and succeed.
FCPS Warehouse Operations: With 50 team members, 13 trucks, and thousands of deliveries each year, the Fairfax County Public Schools warehouse ensures every student has access to the same high-quality learning materials. Follow the journey of ladybug larvae from the FCPS warehouse to classrooms across Fairfax County and meet the people who make hands-on learning possible for every student.
